Psalms 62:7

In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

In God are salvation and glory, and He is the rock of strength and the refuge, the firm rock on which a person can rely. He is the source from whom all these blessings come, so that salvation, glory, strength, and refuge are found in Him alone.

The verse calls for confidence in God rather than in what people can do. It belongs with waiting on God alone and placing expectation in Him.

The Rock is the sure foundation of God's people. That Rock is Christ, on whom the church is built, so the church founded on Him cannot be overthrown. He is the Rock of Israel's salvation and strength, and the related pictures of still waters and the fountain of life likewise point to Christ as the giver of grace and life.

Christ is the rock of strength in whose shelter a person can hide without fear. John was reminded of this truth as he looked at the rocks of Patmos, which brought to mind Christ the Rock and the shelter from danger found in Him.

The verse expresses secure confidence in God as helper. That confidence brings comfort and light during severe suffering. For workers it teaches dependence on God instead of self-assertion, as they blend together in Christ and show more of His love.

Studying Psalm 62 goes with abiding in Christ and preparing for the home He is preparing. The verse presents Jesus as strength and salvation at a time when God still waits to be gracious and has not closed the windows of heaven. Yet separation from Him has nearly ended vital godliness, and the remedy is to fix the eye of faith upon the cross and believe that Jesus is strength and salvation.
