Psalms 63:2

To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.

David spoke as a man in his manhood, a hunted fugitive finding refuge in the rocks and caves of the wilderness. His soul and his flesh thirsted and longed for God in a dry and weary land. Even in that dry and thirsty place he desired God's presence and worship there.

He longed to see God's power and glory again as he had seen and encountered and experienced them in the sanctuary. Though far from the sanctuary he still sought communion with God and with heaven. He held that communion through song, rejoicing in the shadow of God's wings as his help.
