So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away.
The verse concerns wicked people who sharpen their speech like swords and fire bitter words in secret at the upright while setting hidden traps. God will suddenly strike and wound those wicked speakers. God turns their own tongues back upon themselves, so their malicious speech causes their own downfall and ruin. All who see their ruin will flee away from them.
This scripture will be literally fulfilled. Its fulfillment comes in a coming shaking that removes everything that can be shaken, so that only what cannot be shaken remains. Its fulfillment leaves a pure and holy people who stand the test, while all people fear and declare the work of God and the righteous are glad and trust in the Lord. Therefore every believer must now examine the heart as with a lighted candle and live out love to God with all heart, soul, strength and mind and love to neighbor in order to inherit eternal life.
