Psalms 64:9

And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.

The verse stands after God suddenly wounds the wicked who lay secret plans and aim bitter speech at the upright, so that their own tongues are turned back upon themselves. When He thus defeats them and lays their plots open, all people are brought to reverent fear, to tell abroad His work, and to give thoughtful attention to what He has done. It announces a coming judgment that will take place literally and exactly as it is written.

Its fulfillment arrives in the shaking of all that can be shaken, until nothing is left but what cannot be shaken. That shaking is the process by which the Lord secures for Himself a pure and holy people who endure the test. In light of that prospect every believer is now to examine his own heart with close and searching care.
