A Farming Couple Laughs in the Harvest Fieldby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 65:10

Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof.

The verse belongs to a song praising God for daily mercies and for human dependence on Him. It portrays God visiting the earth to water the plowed ridges abundantly, to settle the furrows, to soften the soil with showers, and to bless the springing growth. In this way it describes the natural processes that bring a harvest — rain preparing the soil and sustaining growing crops — as God's enriching of the land and His care in providing food, crowning the year with goodness.

This natural care represents God's spiritual blessings, showing how He uses symbols from the natural world to teach divine truth about spiritual, invisible things. When Christ is taken into the heart, the fields are surrounded with holy influence and nature takes up His parables to minister His counsel, opening the heart to God's great spiritual teaching and bringing communion with Him; the soul then rests in His love and the heart is drawn upward in songs of praise and thanksgiving.
