Jagged Mountain Peak Under Storm Clouds and Sunbeamsby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 65:6

Which by his strength setteth fast the mountains; being girded with power:

Which by His strength sets fast the mountains and is girded with power and might declares that God, even Christ, holds the mountains firm by His own strength. The mountains stand fast by His creative power, the same power that spread the heavens, founded the earth, hung the worlds in space, and fashioned the flowers, so that all creation reveals God and bears the message of the Father's love. The same power that fixes the mountains stills the roaring of the seas and the tumult of the peoples. He is the confidence of all the ends of the earth and of those afar off upon the sea, mighty over creation and over nations, trustworthy, full of loving-kindness, loving righteousness and justice, making the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice and crowning the year with goodness.

God fixed the mountains firmly in their places and clothed and girded them with His power, so that no human might can move them out of their place and only His own infinite arm can move them. The towering rocks of every shape and immense magnitude and the high peaks reaching upward are His works and evidences displaying the greatness of His mighty power to all. Rising in grandeur the mountains point heavenward to His majesty, turn the mind upward to God, give a sense of being surrounded by His presence and covered by His glory, declare that He changes not, and stand as a constant witness of His creative power and a never-failing assurance of His protecting care. The mountains of Moab displayed this power to John in the wilderness and testified to God's presence and might.

The everlasting, unchanging hills in their immovable majesty are an emblem of the immutable righteousness of Jehovah, with whom there is no variableness nor shadow of turning, and of His enduring word. The God who keeps the mountains in position is a defense and strong tower giving help and strength to do His will. As God firmly set the mountains, He established His law as the foundation of His government in heaven and upon earth, so that man can as readily uproot the mountains and hurl them into the sea as change one precept of the law or blot out one of His promises to those who do His will. No human power can alter His law or erase His promises, for His law spoken from Mount Sinai, His Word, His will, and His words of promise are more immutable, unchangeable, and eternal than the grand mountains themselves and stand forever from generation to generation.

His unchanging majesty and power were displayed when His holy law was spoken from Mount Sinai amid thunder and flame and smoke, with a voice like a trumpet and with flashing lightnings and rolling thunders that shook the mountain from top to base. God's servants should therefore remain as firm in fidelity and loyalty to His law as the unchanging, enduring hills.
