Psalms 65:9
Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it. Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.
God Himself visits the earth and waters it, greatly enriching it with the river of God which is full of water, and after so preparing the land He provides grain for food. The fertility of the earth and its supply of food are gifts from God that show dependence on Him for daily mercies. Through this provision Christ is constantly at work to answer the prayer for daily bread and to make good His assurance that the God who clothes the grass of the field will much more clothe His people. An invisible power is constantly at work as a servant to feed and clothe humanity, and many agencies are employed to make the seed apparently thrown away a living plant, supplying in due proportion everything required to perfect the harvest.
This provision in nature is a representation of spiritual blessings, for symbols from the natural world are used to teach divine truth. When received with Christ in the heart, this teaching opens the heart to great spiritual instruction, speaks through nature of invisible spiritual things, brings communion with nature's God and rest in His love, and draws the heart upward in songs of praise and thanksgiving.
The river of God also pictures the precious truth given to God's ancient people, through whom Christ supplied the refreshing water of life and the dews and showers of grace. As rain nourishes the earth, grace refreshes His people and sustains the growth of truth to its harvest. People often overlook these blessings and take the glory for themselves.
