Psalms 66:12
Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place. Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.
God's people may have to endure severe oppression, distress and trials. That suffering is pictured as oppressors riding over their heads and trampling them down, and as passing through fiery trial and overwhelming water. God brings His people through that suffering out into a spacious place of deliverance, blessing, relief and abundance.
When a person is ill-treated or wrongly and falsely accused, the verse is a promise to hold in mind. It calls for trusting in God rather than answering in anger or retaliating. That trust rests on confidence that God will bring the ordeal to a good end.
