People of Many Nations Looking Over the Worldby CBPepper

Psalms 67:2

That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.

Psalm 67:2 is a prayer for God to be merciful and to let His blessing, favor and shining face rest upon His people so that His purpose may be fulfilled throughout the world. The prosperity and blessing He gives His church are not for itself alone but for a missionary purpose, that His way may become known on earth and His salvation may reach all nations. His way is the knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ and the gospel, and His saving health is His salvation and saving power made known to people everywhere. That revelation brings healing and renewed physical and spiritual health and vigor, relieving moral and physical sickness, for which He is praised for His wonderful works. It becomes known through the grateful praise, lives and testimony of His people and through preaching and living the gospel, including practical medical missionary care for the sick and suffering, which is earnest missionary work and a joyful privilege for all, even children, within their reach and influence.

Prayer for Worldwide Blessing

Psalm 67:2 is a prayer for God to be merciful and to grant His blessing, favor, and shining presence and face upon His people, so that His purpose may be fulfilled worldwide. The mercy and blessing are sought not as ends in themselves but in order that His way may be known throughout the earth and His saving health among all nations. The prayer is to go forth from sincere and unfeigned lips while working with eternity in view and every power sanctified, with earnest effort so that people everywhere may know Him and those who are perishing may be reached. Answering this prayer means going into the world as earnest workers and earnest medical missionaries for the Lord.

The blessing and prosperity God gives His church serve a missionary purpose beyond itself. The church's prosperity under God's blessing and its influence are connected with making God's way and salvation known beyond itself, so that His way becomes known on earth and His saving health reaches all nations. The verse thus calls the church to share the knowledge of Jesus Christ with all peoples.

God's way means the knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ and the gospel, and His saving health means His salvation and saving power made known to people everywhere. The spread of the knowledge of God's way and His saving power among all nations is itself the substance of the prayer for His people. The gospel is therefore to be both preached and lived so that God's name is praised for His works.

God's revelation brings healing and renewed physical and spiritual health and vigor, relieving moral and physical sickness. Divine revelation is prayed for to bring renewed vigor to God's people, and His grace to work through the churches until His name is praised for His wonderful works. This applies to medical missionary work, by which people may help share health and spiritual well-being, cooperating with divine power to relieve suffering.

Sharing God's Saving Health

The prayer that God's way be known on earth and His saving health among all nations is a call to earnest effort to make Him known everywhere. It is to be offered from sincere and unfeigned lips while working with eternity in view and with every power sanctified for the great work to be done. It is the prayer of approved workmen who need not be ashamed, asking God to be merciful and to grant blessing and favor so that His purpose for the world may be fulfilled. Joined to God's mercy, blessing, and shining presence, this worldwide purpose reaches those who are perishing with the gospel.

God's goodness and power become known through the grateful praise, lives, and testimony of His people throughout the earth and among all nations. By preaching the gospel and living it, they reveal His way and saving power and give His name praise for His wonderful works. In this way people are turned from false worship by being shown something better.

Answering the prayer for God's mercy and blessing means going into the world as earnest workers for the Lord in medical missionary work. Through practical care for the sick and suffering, men and women share health and spiritual well-being and cooperate with divine power. That cooperation relieves moral and physical sickness and carries the knowledge of His saving health to all nations.

Children also share in making the message known among all nations. As they learn the truth about Jesus they share it with others, and their voices help give God's last warning to a perishing world. Their missionary service, including practical work for the sick and suffering, helps win people to the truth and spread God's saving health.

Making God's ways and saving power known on earth to all within one's reach and influence is missionary work. It is a joyful privilege and a work of joyful Christian witness, not merely a duty.
