Psalms 68:15

The hill of God is as the hill of Bashan; an high hill as the hill of Bashan.

The comparison to Bashan draws on the beauty of its mountain scenery, for the region was one of extraordinary fertility marked by strong oaks, beautiful mountains, luxuriant pastures, fertile plains, and excellent cattle. It was an earthly paradise whose agricultural resources were able to support by farming the great population that once crowded its many fortified cities. That beauty supplied sacred writers with lofty imagery.

The verse belongs to a song of victory expressing thankfulness for deliverance from trials. The song is prophetic of Christ in His triumph, pointing beyond David to the greater David whose Spirit inspired the psalmist. It is part of a latter-day prophecy especially applicable to the remnant church in the closing work of the third angel's message, to be fulfilled at the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the latter rain of that message, when light, health, righteousness, and the glory of the Lord will attend God's people.
