Psalms 68:7

O God, when thou wentest forth before thy people, when thou didst march through the wilderness; Selah:

O God going forth before His people and marching through the wilderness recalls His leading of Israel after deliverance from Egypt toward the promised land. His presence went before them as a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Their journey was one led by God Himself traveling with them.

This leading belongs with God in His holy habitation as father of the fatherless and judge of widows. There He sets the solitary in families and brings out those bound with chains, while the rebellious dwell in dry land. It belongs with the earth shaking and the heavens dropping at His presence even at Sinai. It belongs with plentiful rain confirming His weary inheritance, with His congregation dwelling therein, and with preparation from His goodness for the poor, leading to the Lord giving the word published by a great company.

Psalm 68 is a triumphant psalm celebrating God's work for His people. It is a comforting and clear testimony to His care and strength for them. It also portrays the redemption of the true Israel. It is a paean of victory prophetic of Christ in His triumph.

The God-led wilderness journey is a pattern for the work of spreading truth as a battle and a march in which God accompanies the workers. The going forth before His people and marching through the wilderness is part of a latter-day prophecy fulfilled in the closing work of the third angel's message by the remnant church at the time of the latter rain outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
