Old King David Plays His Harp in Jerusalemby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 71:23

My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.

The speaker is David in old age, near the end of his work, still rejoicing in song because God has redeemed him. The words are a declaration of trust in God, belonging to continual praise. The song is sung to God as the Holy One of Israel.

Both the lips greatly rejoicing and the soul that God has redeemed join in the song. Singing is the expression of the redeemed soul's rejoicing in God because He has redeemed it. The praise continues all the day long, with the tongue talking of God's righteousness. The testimony celebrates the Lord's faithfulness throughout a lifetime.
