Psalms 71:3
Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress. Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.
The verse is a prayer asking God to be a strong dwelling place and secure refuge to which one may continually come. Its images of rock and fortress present Christ as the rock of habitation, the rock of salvation, a secure refuge and source of strength, and belong to the Bible's picture of His grace as life-giving water.
The prayer expresses dependence on God rather than on self or human strength, turning from the helplessness found in self to find refuge and strength in Him. Jesus is everything to the believer who prays this, providing sinlessness and infinite power. He is the one in whom the believer finds the righteousness He gave His life to impart.
