Psalms 72:11

Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him.

The verse belongs to David's prayer for the salvation of souls to the ends of the earth, and it continues to lead the church in intercession for people everywhere. It promises a righteous reign extending beyond Israel, in which all kings bow in submission and all nations serve, meaning universal dominion and homage belonging to a just and God-fearing rule. That worldwide submission and service was set before Solomon as his opportunity.

The verse is an inspired prophecy of what Solomon's kingdom might have become for the glory of God. Its fulfillment was conditioned on following his father's divinely inspired instruction to know God, serve Him with a perfect heart, keep His statutes and commandments and obey His law. It further required ruling justly in the fear of God with humility, constant trust, watchfulness, mercy and loving-kindness.

Solomon honored God and brought glory to Israel's name for a time. But his later pursuit of power, alliances with heathen nations, and turn to idolatry marred that history and forfeited the fulfillment.
