David Blesses Solomon the New Kingby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 72:20

The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

Psalm 72:20 closes David's prayer for Solomon, which is an inspired prophecy describing the reign of righteousness Solomon could have had. That reign depended on Solomon following his aged father's divinely inspired instruction to know the God of his father, to serve Him with a perfect heart and willing mind, to keep the charge of the Lord in His statutes and commandments and judgments, to rule justly in the fear of God, and to show mercy and loving-kindness. By doing so Solomon would have stood as a strong, good man, an example of fidelity, and a teacher of righteousness.

Because of his later apostasy, Solomon's reign did not remain in keeping with that ideal, so his history did not fulfill it.
