Asaph Clashes Cymbals as Levites Blow Hornsby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 75:1

Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare.

The psalm was composed by Asaph during the reign of Hezekiah in the time of Isaiah's prophetic ministry, concerning the invasion of Sennacherib and the destruction of the Assyrian army and host. It is an expression of thanks to God because His name is near, a nearness that His wondrous works declare and make known. That name is His character as the truthful hearer of prayer, which is close at hand, with His wondrous works making His presence known.

Those wondrous works include His guidance and intervention in His work on earth in both Bible times and modern times, reminding His people even in earth's closing days that He watches over them and directs them in the way of life. After praying, people should therefore watch the events that follow for His providential answering and guiding, while leaving the timing and means to His wisdom since they may vary. It presses each reader to consider whether he will be saved with the meek of the earth.
