Psalms 77:13

Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?

God's way is in the sanctuary, which is the place of worship and communion where He makes Himself known. He is incomparably great, so that no god is so great as He is. There He works wonders and reveals His greatness and strength among the people.

He does not dwell in temples made by human hands nor remain confined to them, yet He honors His people's gathered worship with His presence through His Spirit. When they gather to seek Him, acknowledge their sins, and pray for one another, He promises to meet with them. That worship must be in spirit and in truth and in holiness, with hearts emptied of evil.

The greatness asked about is seen in towering rocks and mountains, so that creation itself becomes a means of communion with Him. In that setting of worship and prayer He gives assurance of His love and mercy, pardon for sin, and answers to prayer. His ways are unlike human ways and are marked by mysterious, wondrous acts, so that what appears as hard dealing can in fact be mercy and compassion that upholds for good, as when He upheld James through his journey and turned circumstances that seemed harmful to his good.
