Moses Watches Israel Cross Between Walls of Waterby G0_For_G0d1
78:13Psalms 78:13
He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.
God miraculously divided the sea so that Israel could pass through, making the waters stand piled up like a heap. That crossing was their deliverance from Egypt and their freedom from slavery, a wondrous and mighty work counted among the rich blessings God bestowed on His people. The act displayed His power to preserve His people and revealed the source of Israel's strength.
Israel returned these benefits poorly, working constantly against a good God even while He acted for them. Their disobedience brought upon them the sure result of their own course of action. Repentance under rebuke and chastisement was followed by falling again under temptation, self-indulgence and self-gratification, and when trials came they complained and forgot His deliverance.
The deliverance should be remembered and valued, and it gives reason to trust God for strength in times of weakness. Those who abide in Christ and fully receive heavenly truth are sanctified through it, so in trial they do not forget God's power and complain, but remember past deliverance instead of complaining and keep advancing in the divine life.
