Psalms 78:32

For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.

For all this they went on sinning and did not believe for His wondrous works, making a poor return for rich blessings bestowed on them by failing to trust Him. The children of Israel were constantly working against a good God in this unbelief despite what He had done. Their response to His benefits was poor gratitude and faith, continuing in sin rather than believing.

The immediate setting was His gift of angels' food, given to best preserve health and to prove a blessing, which they despised while crying for meat until He gave their desire. He rained flesh upon them as dust and feathered fowls as the sand around the camp and let them eat and be filled. Then He sent His wrath upon them while the meat was still in their mouths, and slew the fattest of them and struck down the chosen men of Israel.

Even after that judgment they sinned still in unbelief, so their days were consumed in vanity and their years in trouble. When He afflicted and slew them they sought Him and remembered that God was their Rock and the high God their Redeemer. But they only flattered Him with the mouth and lied to Him with the tongue, for their heart was not right with Him and they were not steadfast and faithful to His covenant. Yet being full of compassion He forgave their iniquity and many times turned His anger away and did not stir up all His wrath, remembering that they were frail flesh and fleeting.

Through disobedience they were brought into a condition that was the sure result of their own course of action. Under rebuke and chastisement they repented, but under temptation they fell again through self-indulgence and self-gratification. The sin was complaining when trials came and forgetting the source of their strength. Those who have Bible religion abide in Christ and stay connected with the source of all wisdom and power, and by fully receiving truth of heavenly origin are sanctified through it and continually advance in the divine life as strong men and women who do not repeat that complaining and forgetting.
