Psalms 78:55
He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents. He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
He drove out the heathen nations from before Israel, divided their land to His people as an inheritance measured out by line, and settled the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents and in the homes of those who had lived there before them.
This belongs to the record of God's abundant and rich blessings bestowed upon Israel, met with a poor return and a poor response from the people for those benefits. It is part of the account showing that the children of Israel worked constantly against a good God.
Through disobedience they were brought into the condition that was the sure result of their own course of action. Under rebuke and chastisement they repented, but under temptation and the pull of self-indulgence and self-gratification they fell again.
