Psalms 78:62

He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.

The psalm containing this verse recounts the rich blessings God bestowed on His people and their poor return for all those benefits. It sets forth His goodness on their behalf alongside their ungrateful response to everything He had done for them.

The verse means that Israel's disobedience and rebellion provoked God to wrath so that He gave His own people over to the sword. They were His inheritance, yet their unfaithfulness brought judgment upon them. In anger He left them to the consequences of their own course. Under rebuke and chastisement they repented, but they repeatedly returned to temptation, self-indulgence, and self-gratification.
