Young David Tends His Father's Sheepby CBPepper

Psalms 78:72

So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.

The psalm containing the verse recounts the rich blessings God bestowed upon His people and their poor return for all His benefits. Within that record Israel constantly worked against a good God, and through disobedience was brought into the condition that was the sure result of its own course, repenting under rebuke and chastisement yet falling again under temptation through self-indulgence and self-gratification. The psalm calls for careful attention to Israel's history and its lessons, including God's faithful guidance of His people, as a song to remember and keep in step with while journeying through the wilderness.

The verse is worthy of earnest consideration and study, because a solemn work lies before God's people, who should be far further advanced than they now are in understanding eternal realities. It calls for fishers of men to be aroused as a people to the duty of explaining the truths of the Word to those who do not know them, beginning earnest, self-sacrificing efforts for those perishing in their sins. Those who sow the seeds of truth will reap a rich harvest, and no human mind can estimate the amount of good done by unselfish effort.
