Psalms 83:12

Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.

The words speak of hostile powers plotting to take for themselves the dwelling places and possessions that belong to God. In the crisis under Jehoshaphat this purpose took form as an allied assault on God's people aimed at driving Judah out of the inheritance God had given them. The confederates were the children of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir together with Edom and others, joined with one consent to cut Israel off from being a nation and to seize God's houses and possession for themselves. Against that threat all Judah stood together with their families in united fasting and prayer, asking God not to keep silence but to put their enemies to confusion and shame and to destroy them as Midian and Sisera were destroyed. The prayer sought not only rescue but that men everywhere might know that Jehovah alone is the Most High over all the earth.
