Psalms 83:17

Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:

The verse is a petition for God to visit the confederated foes of His people with bewilderment, trouble, disgrace, and perishing. Its aim is universal recognition that Jehovah alone is supreme over the whole earth, vindicating the honor of His name. In the emergency under Jehoshaphat it functions as an appeal for divine judgment upon the allied powers advancing against Israel. Then the whole nation of Judah united in seeking God together for that deliverance.
