The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;
The verse lists the tabernacles of Edom together with the Ishmaelites, and Moab together with the Hagarenes, among the peoples joined in confederacy against Israel. That confederacy met Israel in the time of Jehoshaphat as Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, coming to cast Israel out of the possession that God had given them.
Their counsel was to destroy the nation itself, that the name of Israel might be no more in remembrance. In conspiring thus against the people they conspired against God, making their hostility enmity toward Him as well as toward them. The psalm therefore pleads for their confusion and defeat, that through their overthrow God's own name may be glorified and all the earth may know that He alone is the Most High over all.
