Psalms 83:9

Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison:

The prayer belongs to a time when the kingdom was in peril from Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, with all Judah standing together with their families in united prayer accompanied by fasting. It has in view a confederacy that has conspired together to cut Israel off from being a nation. It is offered in confession that there is no might and no knowledge of what to do, with eyes fixed upon God. It pleads for God to deal with and defeat the present enemies as He dealt with the Midianites and with Sisera and Jabin at the brook of Kishon, recalling those past deliverances as grounds for asking Him to act again. It asks Him to judge the invaders and to put them to confusion and shame and make them to perish, so that men may know that He whose name alone is Jehovah is the Most High over all the earth and that glory may be brought to His name.
