Psalms 84:3
Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God. Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.
The sparrow is pictured as having found a home and the swallow as having made a nest for herself to lay her young, even at the altars of the Lord. That homing of the birds at the place of sacrifice expresses a deep longing for the Lord's house. It is longing for closeness with God in worship and in communion with Him.
The verse calls for making God's house a first priority. That priority is to be shown by investing in the church. The church is to be upheld as a place devoted to the worship of God. It is likewise to be kept devoted to service to God.
