Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.
At Christ's first advent darkness had covered the earth and gross darkness the people, with spiritual and moral darkness resting upon the world and with spiritual darkness settled over the religious world almost universal and complete. Humanity had lost sight of God's character because Satan's misrepresentations had created a false picture of God. Righteousness looking down from heaven sought the reflection of its image in humanity and found none.
Truth springing out of the earth was fulfilled in Christ's life on earth as the Word made flesh full of grace and truth, when grace and truth came by Jesus Christ, so that mercy and truth met together and righteousness and peace kissed each other. Christ, the divine Instructor and Light of the world, alone could remove and dispel that darkness and reveal God, correcting the false picture of God. In that fulfillment the Lord gives that which is good and the land yields her increase, and righteousness goes before Him to set believers in the way of His steps.
