In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.
In the day of trouble a person may call upon God with confidence that He will answer. That calling is made with assured expectation of an answer, and it is the ground for clinging to Him in sorrow and distress. In woe a person is to cling to the living God, trusting Him in distress.
He hears and answers in the day of trouble because He is good and ready to forgive and plenteous in mercy to all who call upon Him. He attends to the voice of supplication from the sinful and erring. This disposition to show mercy distinguishes Jehovah from all gods claiming recognition and devotion, for none is like Him and no works are like His works, for He is great and does wondrous things and is God alone, whom all the nations He has made shall come and worship and glorify.
