Levite Sings with a Harp at Jerusalem's Gateby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 87:3

Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.

Zion is the city of God, whose foundation stands in the holy mountain and whose gates are loved by the Lord. Glorious things are spoken of Zion, and those glorious words assure God's special regard for it.

Zion is made the subject of a bright testimony, for the patriarchs and prophets and the faithful of the Old Testament bore a bright witness of loyalty concerning it. That city of God identifies God's people as a city set on a hill, called to shine because the Sun of Righteousness has risen upon the church, while those connected with Christ grow in grace and in knowledge of Him.

That testimony is meant to shine through God's followers today, for God intends them to let the light shine through them. Followers today are called to arise and shine even more clearly than those before them, because they have received the accumulated light of the centuries and of the later ages.
