Psalms 88:5
Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand. Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand.
The word for grave in the verse means a grave or burial place. Only some of the dead lie in such literal graves, while all the dead are in sheol, which is the unconscious state of death. To be cut off from God's hand is to be unable to praise or serve Him, for the voices of the dead are silent in death. Death is a sleep from which only the Son of God can awaken the dead, so that without the resurrection God's purposes for humanity would perish at death.
