Heman Reaches Up from a Deep Pitby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 88:6

Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.

The verse voices the experience of being set down in the lowest pit, hemmed in by darkness and by the deeps. It portrays a state of extreme distress in which the sufferer is brought utterly low. The surrounding darkness and depth give the sense of utter abasement and overwhelming affliction.
