Psalms 89:7

God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.

In its setting the verse belongs to the promises made to David and his house, promises that reach forward to the eternal ages and find their complete fulfillment in Christ.

God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints and to be held in reverence by all who are about Him. This reverence is due because His greatness and majesty are beyond all comparison. That unmatched greatness and majesty are displayed in creation.

The heavenly hosts praise and honor Him, and heaven praises His wonders and His faithfulness. His glory stands complete in itself and does not depend on human obedience to supply it.

For worship this means that God's house is the audience chamber of the Most High, with heavenly angels in attendance. Those who gather there should therefore show respect in their appearance, and should not come in dusty, soiled, torn, or disorderly clothing.
