Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.
Thou rulest the raging of the sea, and when its waves arise Thou stillest them, declaring supreme power over creation and the forces of nature. That ruling strength is the same strength by which mighty acts have been performed for His people. In the promises to David it belongs to the assurance of strength and faithfulness, and those promises find their complete fulfillment in Christ. His mastery over nature is evidence that He is the supreme ruler who can carry out what His wisdom and love desire.
His voice can quiet even a thundering hurricane, and no storm can overcome His power and skill. This mastery proves Him the supreme, omnipotent governor of the world, whose power executes whatever His wisdom desires or His love inspires. He remains sovereign and faithful amid human suffering. Though supreme and majestic in reign, He loves the most helpless and most suffering among His children.
He is showing evidences of His power so that truth will triumph, every error in doctrine will be uprooted, and every truth will stand immortal. This gives a helpless person reason to trust that He can strengthen and keep him. Therefore one suffering for doing good can commit the keeping of the soul to Him as a faithful Creator, knowing His angels are round about. This means having faith in God and remembering the love of God manifested in Jesus the Prince of Life suffering as the Just for the unjust to save men from death and misery.
