Psalms 9:15

The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.

The pit that was dug and the hidden net in which the foot is caught are traps laid by the wicked for others that become the means of their own downfall. Those who devise harm are ensnared by the very schemes they set in motion, so that what was prepared for another turns back upon themselves. This reversal is an expression of divine judgment, in which the wicked are taken in their own devices. By that judgment their own wickedness becomes the cause of their destruction.

The verse applies to those who plot injury against God's people, as was seen when the Midianites who enticed Israel into sin met judgment and were destroyed. Their counsel against Israel recoiled upon themselves, so that the evil intended for others brought their own ruin.
