Aged Moses Sits on a Rock at Sunsetby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 90:1

Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.

The Lord himself is a personal refuge, home, and secure dwelling place for his people in every generation. He is a safe dwelling under the shadow of his throne, where those who belong to him may live protected. His arm alone is sufficient, and their defense is certain.

Moses learned God in this way after slaying the Egyptian and fleeing from Egypt to become a humble shepherd. He ceased planning some great work and disciplined his mind to seek after God as his refuge. He recognized the presence of God in his surroundings, with all nature filled with the presence of the Unseen One. As he meditated upon God's character as a personal God, he grasped more and more the sense of that presence.

To have God as a dwelling place is to find refuge in the everlasting arms. It is to talk with God face to face, as a man speaks with his friend. Then the bright beams of the Sun of Righteousness shine into the heart and into the chambers of the mind.

Even when faith is feeble, strength fails, affliction comes, and death approaches, imperfect people who feel their need of Christ and trust in him dwell securely in God. They rely fully and implicitly on his precious blood poured out on the cross as an atonement for sin. They rely on the everlasting righteousness brought in by his obedience unto death, and on his present work at the Father's right hand as Prince of life and Saviour, the only name in which eternal interests can safely be trusted. Thus their last days are made fragrant as the beams of the Sun of Righteousness shine through the life.
