Aged Solomon Beneath the Almond Tree Beside the Fountainby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 90:12

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

God is everlasting, and human life stands in contrast to that unending existence. Human life is short and passes quickly. It is marked by trouble and stands accountable to God. To number our days is to recognize that brevity. That recognition is to become prayer, asking God for help to use days wisely and to apply the heart to wisdom in daily living. The petition belongs within a larger plea for God's mercy and for lasting purpose to be given to human work.
