O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
The prayer asks God to satisfy His people with His mercy, making His compassion the full supply of their need. It seeks that satisfaction early, from the beginning of their days, so that life is grounded in mercy from its outset. The result requested is that this mercy will cause rejoicing and gladness, giving lasting joy throughout the whole of life.
