Psalms 97:9

For thou, LORD, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods.

For thou, LORD, art high above all the earth, thou art exalted far above all gods, declares that Jehovah enthroned is supreme over the whole earth and exalted far above every other god. He is the God of the universe, infinite in every perfection, and there is no God beside Him. That supremacy calls the earth to rejoice and those who love Him to reject evil, for the glory due Him is honor, might, majesty, and joyful worship before Him. His exalted name and power and greatness are proved by creation, which bears His divine signature, for He spoke the formless, void earth mantled in darkness into life through six days of labor by His word, then ceased and crowned the first Sabbath morning with glory.

The psalm describes millennial times and the millennial jubilee at Christ's personal pre-millennial coming to judge the earth with righteousness and equity, when the Lord's reign is acknowledged, those who serve graven images are confounded, and millennial glories begin. It gives one of the strongest descriptions of His coming to judgment, with millennial times interwoven into the description. The coming and judgment in Psalms 96, 97, and 98 are as literal in style as the coming and judgment in Psalm 50, and the psalm belongs with Psalms 96 and 98 as containing distinct millennial description, shown to be pre-millennial by its whole structure and by Paul's use of it in Hebrews 1:6. He comes with clouds and darkness round about Him and righteousness and judgment as the habitation of His throne, with fire going before and burning up His enemies round about, with lightnings enlightening the world till the earth trembles and hills melting like wax at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare His righteousness and all people see His glory, shame falls on servers of graven images and all gods are commanded to worship Him, bringing rejoicing to heaven, earth, sea, field, trees, floods and hills.
