John Hears the Seven Thunders from the Angelby KandD

Revelation 10:2

And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth,

The mighty angel holding the little open book is Jesus Christ Himself. Daniel and Revelation are one book, Daniel being the sealed prophecy and Revelation the opened revelation held open in the angel's hand. The little open book is Daniel's prophecies unsealed as the message in relation to time, the precious truth in regard to the time of the Lord's advent, reaching from 1842 to the autumn of 1844 and giving Daniel's prophecies their proper place in the first, second, and third angels' messages to be given to the world.

Setting His right foot upon the sea and His left foot upon the land denotes His supreme power and authority over the whole earth. That stance shows the part He acts in the closing scenes of the great controversy with Satan, when the conflict has waxed stronger from age to age and intensifies toward its conclusion while Satan united with evil men deceives the whole world and the churches who receive not the love of the truth. He cries with a loud voice to demand attention and to show the power and authority of His voice to those who have united with Satan to oppose the truth. Standing with one foot on the sea and the other on the land also signifies the wide extent of the proclamation, that the truth in regard to the time of the advent will cross the broad waters and be proclaimed in other countries, even to all the world.

The first and second angels' messages were to be proclaimed and do their specific work of testing faith before any further light was revealed. The special light of the seven thunders, which delineates events under those messages and relates to future events to be disclosed in their order, was therefore withheld and sealed up until that work was done. The time the angel declares with a solemn oath is not the end of this world's history, neither of probationary time, but of prophetic time which should precede the advent of the Lord. Hence the people will not have another message upon definite time, and after the period reaching from 1842 to 1844 there can be no definite tracing of prophetic time, the longest reckoning reaching to the autumn of 1844. Eating the little book represents the comprehension of truth and the glad reception of that precious message to the soul concerning the time of the advent.
