Angel With a Book and an Hourglass Beside the Seaby KandD

Revelation 10:3

And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices.

The mighty Angel who cries out is Jesus Christ. He appears in the closing scenes of the great controversy with Satan. His right foot upon the sea and His left foot upon the dry land denote supreme power and authority over the whole earth.

The stance with one foot on the sea and the other on the land also means the proclamation has wide extent, crossing the broad waters to be proclaimed in other countries, even to all the world. His crying with a loud voice demands attention and displays the power and authority of His voice to those united with Satan to oppose the truth. At that time Satan, united with evil men, deceives the whole world and the churches that do not receive the love of the truth.

The seven thunders uttering their voices gave John special light containing mysteries, a delineation of events to transpire under the first and second angels' messages, concerning future events to be disclosed in their order. John heard what the thunders uttered but was commanded to seal it up and not write it, as Daniel was commanded concerning the sealed book. Daniel and Revelation belong together as one, one a sealed prophecy and the other an opened revelation.

The sealing was because it was not best for the people to know these things yet and their faith had to be tested, so no further light was to be revealed before the first and second angels' messages had done their specific work, after which most wonderful and advanced truths would be proclaimed. John sees the little book unsealed, and its unsealing places Daniel's prophecies in their proper place in the first, second, and third angels' messages, the unsealing being the message in relation to time. The Angel's solemn oath that time should be no longer does not mean the end of world history or probationary time but the end of prophetic time preceding the Lord's advent, reaching from 1842 to 1844 with the longest reckoning to the autumn of 1844, after which there is no definite tracing of prophetic time and no other message based on definite time. Eating the little book means comprehension of truth and glad reception of the message, and the truth about the time of the Lord's advent was a precious message to the soul.
