The verse is a loud-voiced call to fear God and give Him glory because the hour of His judgment has come, and to worship Him as the Maker of heaven and earth and sea and fountains of waters.GC 355.1+2 To fear Him is to reverence, love and obey Him, to give Him glory is to reflect His law in character and life giving glory to God alone, and to worship the Maker is to bow to God alone as Creator, whose memorial and loyalty test is the seventh-day Sabbath.8T 94.1–3+4 The coming of the hour points to Christ's closing High Priest work begun in 1844 in the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary, where sins are investigated and blotted out and every case is decided by the Ten Commandments before probation closes.GC 435.2–436.1+4 It was fulfilled in the Advent movement of 1840 to 1844 through Miller and his fellow workers, and it remains present truth as the everlasting gospel and last mercy to be proclaimed swiftly worldwide to every nation, kindred, tongue and people to prepare a people to meet God.4SP 222.1+4 It stands inseparable with the second and third angels' messages in fixed order, swelling into the loud cry until the whole earth is lightened, testing all by obedience and deciding destiny for Christ's coming.GC88 685.3+4

The verse is a loud-voiced call to fear God and give Him glory because the hour of His judgment has come, and to worship Him as Maker of heaven and earth and sea and fountains of waters.GC 355.1+4 It is the first angel's message and the everlasting gospel to be proclaimed to every nation, kindred, tongue and people throughout the world, not merely in a few places.RH Jul 28, 1904+2 It foretells a great religious awakening under the proclamation of Christ's soon coming, to be carried in its distinctive features with force and importance increasing as the work nears its close.GC 355.1+2

Saying with a loud voice shows the importance of the message and requires a strong, decided influence to arouse the idolatrous world to take heed.Lt 193, 1901, par. 13–15+1 It must be proclaimed with a loud voice that rings through the churches, not in silent whispers, occasional suggestions, feeble tones, hesitation or tame spiritlessness, but boldly, openly and earnestly with a certain sound and with power not known for years.Ms 146, 1897, par. 5–6+1 It is the burden of the present message claiming undivided attention till the close of earth's history, the bread of life and life-giving message for the last days entrusted as stores of life for starving, perishing, unwarned souls, calling for consecrated consistency, faith working by love, and true witness in words, spirit, dress and modest apparel.RH Nov 12, 1903+2 Receiving it lays great responsibility requiring faith shown by works rather than mere theoretical acceptance, to prepare the world for the closing work of the third angel's message which God will cut short in righteousness.Ms 61, 1909, par. 13

Flying in the midst of heaven means swift worldwide proclamation to every nation and people through genuine missionary work after God's wisdom, not after men’s devising.14MR 151.2–6+2 The truth will not decrease but will increase in force and importance as the close is reached, until the whole earth is lightened, and there is no time to lose.Ms 139, 1903, par. 9–11+1 It belongs to the closing work of earth's history and must go not only to lands far off but to neglected places close by and unwarned multitudes in the cities, with carefully selected workers laboring two and two in harmony with experienced counsel under Christ's commission.Ms 18, 1904, par. 4+1

The angel symbolizes faithful human messengers who obey the promptings of God's Spirit and the teachings of His word, enlightened, sanctified through truth and working in harmony with heaven to sound the warning throughout the length and breadth of the earth.4SP 199.2–3+2 No literal angel voice is heard; the work is committed to those who believe, accept the light and go forth as God's agents and depositaries of law and prophecy, separated from the churches and the world into sacred nearness to Him.ST Sep 30, 1886+1 It was not committed to religious leaders who failed to preserve connection with God and refused light, and rejection of the faithful messengers places rejecters as those who rejected Christ.4SP 199.2–3 The three angels are linked together as enduring truth whose influence deepens, widens and moves thousands of hearts, bringing into existence schools, publishing houses and health institutions to cooperate, while Satan seeks to obscure meaning, timing and place.Lt 390, 1907, par. 9+1

To fear God is to reverence, love, obey and worship Him as Creator, shown by obedience to all His requirements and commandments.Ms 200, 1899, par. 4–6+1 It requires genuine heart service and first love with serious reflection, not outward service alone, not dependence on human capabilities, and not being swayed by others.Ms 200, 1899, par. 4–6 To give Him glory is to give glory to God alone and none to erring sinful men, turning from wrong ways.Lt 326, 1905, par. 8+2 It means reflecting His law in character, in eating, drinking, conversation, dress and conduct, preserving physical, mental and spiritual health, keeping the laws established in the human being, and honoring Him by missionary work rather than withholding truth from needy fields.Ms 162, 1905, par. 27–29+1

To worship Him that made heaven, earth, sea and fountains is to bow to God who made the world as the only right object of worship, in contrast to idols made by human hands and false gods.5MR 102.1–2+2 The law stands immutable and eternal and the Sabbath endures through eternal ages pointing to the only true God, and those answering the call build waste places by obedience and uplifting His memorial.1MR 45.1–2 To those who do not know God, including heathen and the ignorant neglected colored people where slavery existed, this difference is most effectively taught through God's works in nature, laying a foundation for spiritual truths of the written Word to elevate and purify character, and parents likewise teach children from creation's beauty to reverence, fear and love Him who first loved them.ST Aug 5, 1875+2

No finite man is to be placed where God should be, honored as God, bowed down to, or allowed to claim homage or become an object of worship.Ms 163, 1897, par. 18–20+1 The worship given to the man of sin in the person of the pope and his representative the cardinal violates this command, for the pope is only a man acting out the character of the man of sin and claiming the power and authority Satan claimed in the heavenly courts.Ms 163, 1897, par. 18–20+1 Standing each in God-given responsibility as moved by the Holy Spirit, God's people are not to bind themselves to glorify man nor be intimidated by human threatening or oppression, and proclamation includes zealously showing transgressions described in Isaiah 58.Ms 162, 1905, par. 27–29

Exalting human agents with unlimited confidence and praising supposed human excellence breaks the call to give glory to God, for to give glory to human agencies is to worship what is not known.STB 392.2+1 God alone is to be exalted while frail erring people humble themselves before Him.STB 392.2+1 Pantheistic ideas placing God in nature, framed by Lucifer the fallen angel, lead those accepting them as beautiful light into dense darkness.MWISDAP 49.3

Many will not understand this loud-voice message but will stumble at the words contained in the roll.Ms 111, 1905, par. 9+1 It is light from Jesus: those who receive and cherish it turn their attention to Him, turn toward heaven, glorify God and join in proclaiming it, even breaking away from binding religious groups, while those who resist or reject it remain in darkness.EW 203.1–2+2 Ministers and leaders rejecting the light try to keep others from accepting it, and the angel's mission lights the earth with heavenly glory amid warning to prepare for the second coming and coming wrath.EW 203.1–2+1

Fearing God and giving Him glory requires order and discipline, sobriety and holy consistency, watching unto prayer, thoughtful still contemplation of revelation, and growth in grace, purity and sanctification, fulfilled by calm sensible labor preaching the Word, defending reasons of faith and patiently instructing awakened minds in character-building.Ms 76a, 1901, par. 19–21 It needs no excitement, noise, shouting, confusion, tumult, strange performances, wild demonstrations, drums, music, dancing or bedlam din, which misrepresent and dishonor holy doctrines, create disgust and prejudice as if bearers are fanatics, and prevent souls receiving truth.Ms 76a, 1901, par. 19–21+1 Such din is not the moving of the Holy Spirit but an invention of Satan and working of satanic agencies to shock and confuse rational senses, pervert truth, make it of none effect, and leave participants adrift unable to tell what they formerly knew of Bible principles, demonstrated just before the close of probation.Lt 132, 1900, par. 22–24

The verse was fulfilled in the Advent movement of 1840 to 1844 in Europe and America, when study of the prophecies moved people to warn that the end was near.4SP 222.1 Its proclamation centered on the prophetic periods and the nearness of Christ's coming, awakening people and bringing them to decision to prepare to meet God.SG1 133.1+1 The work was carried largely by laypeople through writings and missionaries despite opposition and few workers, stirring widespread interest as many accepted the prophetic arguments and joined in the warning.GC 368.1–2 Those who accepted it repented, sought forgiveness, made restitution, turned from worldly things to consecration, and themselves renewed the call to fear God and give Him glory because the hour of His judgment had come.SG1 133.1+1

It was proclaimed in the 1843 time movement and in the autumn 1844 movement with the midnight cry announcing the second coming, to be heard throughout the world.Ms 92a, 1898, par. 1–3+1 The definite-time proclamation warned of approaching doom and stirred the church to prepare for the day of God, and the 1844 call to meet the Bridegroom united believers in hope and faith.LS 93.1–94.2 That united proclamation restrained fanaticism and division, for fanaticism and division arose in the summer of 1844 when there was no definite time and subsided when the autumn time message was given.LS 93.1–94.2 The autumn movement is to be revisited for renewed faith and encouragement as a time of waiting and outpouring of the Holy Spirit comparable to Pentecost.LS 106.3

The work was done most directly in America through William Miller and his fellow workers, including J. V. Himes, Joshua Himes, Josiah Litch and others, as the everlasting gospel call to fear God and give Him glory because judgment has come.SG1 133.1+2 Miller carried that call widely and courageously to crowds despite opposition, hardship and suffering.EW 195.2 It was proclaimed with power in New England and the eastern cities, including Portland, Boston and towns round about, New York City and populous cities close by, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington in 1842 and 1843, beginning in Portland in 1843 and 1844, and those cities must now be worked anew.LSEGW 418.4+2 Its light is to be carried again to those cities with a loud voice, with great power and assurance under the Holy Spirit, to meet honest confused souls waiting for the certain sound.LSEGW 418.4+1

It was carried to every missionary station in the world and produced in some countries the greatest religious interest since the sixteenth-century Reformation, yet it will be far exceeded by the mighty movement under the third angel's last warning.4SP 222.1+1 In Great Britain it was preached as the Lord's coming near by Church of England clergymen, nonconformists and Joseph Wolff in England and throughout the East.HSFM 80.1 In England the judgment message was proclaimed in various parts as the gospel of the kingdom pointing to 1844, announcing Christ's approaching reign among many peoples and nations.GC 362.2+3

In Sweden in 1842 and 1843, when adult voices were silenced God empowered children to proclaim the warning to fear God, give Him glory and recognize that judgment has come.HSFM 205.5–206.3+1 They called hearers to repent without delay, to confess and forsake sin, to seek pardon and mercy in Jesus and flee the coming wrath, reproving immorality, vice, worldliness, backsliding and empty worldly worship.GC88 366.2+2 The message brought people to search the Bible and led many to repent, confess wrongdoing, change their lives and fulfill the purpose that the news of Christ's near advent reach all peoples, tongues and nations.HSFM 205.5–206.3+1 In Orebro in 1843 lay preachers likewise proclaimed that judgment had come, stirring people to confess sins and seek mercy and forgiveness in Jesus.HSFM 202.4

The definite-time proclamation exposed the churches' real character and led many to repent of backsliding and humble themselves before God, and accepted with humble hearts and sincere preparation it would have corrected separating evils and brought renewed Spirit, power, unity, faith and love.GC88 379.1–3+2 But it was widely proclaimed and generally rejected in the United States before the churches' moral decline in 1844, and those who preached Christ's coming were compelled to leave the churches.GC88 389.2–3+1 Many churches suppressed, ridiculed and oppressed believers until they cast off the yoke.GC88 311.1–2 Some embraced it from fear of judgments rather than love of truth and desire for heaven, and the disappointment of 1843 and the passing of the time exposed motives, with some ridiculing the sincere and denying faith when it brought trial and stigma.LS 186.1–2+3

Miller and his associates proclaimed it at the right time but, misunderstanding the sanctuary, expected the 2300 days to end in Christ's return and the earth's purification by fire, not yet seeing further messages in Revelation 14 to be given before the advent that they would not have given had they understood.GC88 351.1–352.3+2 The prophetic timing was linked to 2,300 years reckoned to end in autumn 1844, dating the decree to near the end of 457 B.C., calculated correctly with the mistake only in identifying the event.ST Mar 30, 1876+1 It concerned judgment, not the exact date of Christ's return, for no prophetic period gives that date.GC88 351.1–352.3+1 The warning could be proclaimed as true only in the last days after 1798 when Daniel's sealed prophecy was opened and knowledge increased, announcing the end of the prophetic periods, and after 1844 prophetic time is not definitely traced and time will never again be a test.ExVEGW 61.2+2

Those giving the cry before 1844 were united on the correct view of the daily, that the word sacrifice was added by man's wisdom and does not belong to the text, while differing views afterward brought confusion and darkness.ExVEGW 61.2+2 Its proclamation in belief and fulfillment had transforming power with lasting convictions on minds and manifestation of the Holy Spirit, with diligent point-by-point almost nightly Scripture study as for hidden treasures, revelation of the Lord Himself and light on prophecy.1MR 47.3–4 It gave those who acted a part a settled position and experience more precious than fine gold, holding them firm as a rock amid controversies, and the shared hope in the midnight cry shielded them from Satan's attacks.1MR 47.3–4+1

The tidings from 1840 until 1844 stand as a building erected on the prophets and God's past dealings that must be respected and not torn down, and those without that experience must work in harmony with those who proclaimed it and with remaining workers.Lt 33, 1890, par. 6+1 The truth was confirmed by the experience of 1843 and 1844 which stands as a pillar, platform and foundation of faith that must not be moved, held as the Rock of Ages still guiding day by day.Ms 20, 1903, par. 35–36+1 New interpretations stripping its past meaning threaten the foundations, and new theories taking the vitals out of that past experience are false light which those with no experience in 1843 and 1844 cannot properly judge.Ms 8, 1914, par. 40–41+2 The verse spread swiftly into new European mission fields including Switzerland, where many more could have believed if the first Sabbath keepers had not hindered progress.16MR 316.1

The hour of judgment has come announces Christ's closing work as High Priest begun in 1844 in the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary, continuing until the cases of the living and the dead are decided and ending when human probation closes at His return.GC 435.2–436.1+2 It prepares people for judgment by calling them to fear God, give Him glory and worship Him as Creator, which requires obedience to God's law as the standard of character by faith, resulting in a people who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.GC 435.2–436.1+1 While the investigative judgment proceeds in heaven with the sins of penitent believers removed from the sanctuary, there is a special work of purification and putting away of sin among God's people on earth to make them ready for His appearing.GC 424.4–425.2+1

It points not to His second coming to earth to redeem His people and destroy the wicked nor to the finishing of gospel work, but to His ministration in the heavenly temple and the investigative judgment.GC88 424.3–425.2+2 This judgment immediately precedes the second coming and is the closing work of Christ as High Priest: an investigation in which sins recorded in heavenly books are removed or blotted out, prefigured by the high priest's final yearly service, so that when Christ comes every case has already been decided.GC88 351.1–352.3+1 Together with Daniel 8:14 it marks the event at the end of the 2300 days, calculated correctly with the mistake only in expecting Christ to return then, for the foretold event had to occur before He could return as King of kings to reward His servants.GC 424.1+1 It was the first of further messages in Revelation 14 to be given before the advent, which Miller and associates proclaimed at the right time without yet understanding, and they would not have given it as they did had they understood further proclamations had to be made before the Lord came.GC88 351.1–352.3+2

The righteous are judged and acquitted while Jesus is still their Advocate, and the saints receive eternal life at His return, with every person judged for deeds done in the body and a pronouncement soon to be made as works and actions pass in review before God.GC88 684.6–685.2+2 After the 1844 disappointment many first took the message to mean the world had received its last warning and gospel work was finished, then later recognized further messages would follow and that judgment takes place in heaven before Christ comes.GC88 684.6–685.2+1 Rejecting the first message leaves people unable to benefit from later messages or to follow Jesus by faith into the most holy place, while receiving the connected sequence in order anchors against deception with those experienced guiding newer believers.EW 221.1+1 The message also points to the antitypical Day of Atonement and cleansing of the sanctuary, where Christ ministers in the most holy place to blot out the sins of His faithful people.GC88 684.6–685.2

Preparation requires a life consecrated to God and separated from worldly customs and practices, holy and distinct, putting on the robe of Christ's righteousness to get ready to meet the Lord.Ms 91, 1909, par. 22–23+2 In this solemn hour people should examine themselves, confess errors, repent of sins, pray for one another to be healed, and watch unto prayer in full dependence on God with accountability to Him, keeping the way of the Lord and truly representing Christ rather than leading away.GW92 436.2+1 Their lives are to use every ability to prepare others and shape them spiritually to stand in the great day of God's preparation, awakening world-lovers to consider eternity, how they will fare in the investigative judgment, and their final lot.Ms 8a, 1894, par. 3 Its principles must be studied and practiced to prepare a people to become members of the redeemed family and keep unmistakably distinct the line between servers of God and others, with close study of the Word bringing riches of grace to impart to the needy.Lt 256, 1903, par. 28–29

The hour means the trying of every work and every thought by the Ten Commandments as the standard of character.ST Nov 14, 1895 That original law is safely kept in the ark in the heavenly sanctuary and will be presented exactly as engraved on stone, with the fourth commandment still in the bosom of the Decalogue as written by His finger.ST Nov 14, 1895 God gave the Sabbath to be a sign between Him and His people that they might know He is the Lord who sanctifies them, and every soul exalting a false sabbath above the sanctified Sabbath is out of harmony with His law and, if knowingly trampling the true Sabbath for a spurious institution, must answer before the Creator who proclaims Himself a jealous God.ST Nov 14, 1895 The opening of God's temple in heaven with the ark containing His holy law thus reveals the difference between obedient commandment-keepers and disobedient breakers and brings judgment on transgressors of His kingdom law, a significance opened by the events surrounding 1844 which brought to view the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary and its relation to God's people.Lt 20, 1900, par. 14–18+1

Its declaration that the hour of judgment is come means the judgments of God are in the land and near.9T 137.1–2 Fire and flood and earthquake and destruction of cities are His permitted warnings of His soon approach and give significance to present scenes, urging turning from wicked ways to the living God, which rulers, wealth and influence cannot prevent.ACSMHFP 6.6+2 Believing the time of judgments is come must be revealed in works as well as testimony, shown by living in perilous times when judgment follows judgment, refusing stylish costly churches for simple inexpensive places, taking heed to calamities like San Francisco and expecting further earthquakes upon wicked cities, with the end of all things at hand.21MR 93.3–6 The days of Noah show people may hear warning and make partial changes without completing needed reform, and the ark builders' self-glory shows true worship requires obedience, with Noah's family alone remaining righteous.Ms 200, 1899, par. 7–8

While mercy is offered and God calls nations to repentance their account remains open, but when they reach the set limit He has set the account closes, patience ceases and judgments begin.ST Jan 13, 1887 Christ judges the world, reads motives and thoughts, fixes each destiny, and points to a coming review in which every case will be decided, with hope of bearing heaven's signature through obedience.Ms 84, 1910, par. 29+1 God delays the death penalty against lawbreakers until they have heard the warning and seen where rebellion leads, and holds back judgments while the last message of mercy is sounded because many have not yet heard the truths for this time.RH Dec 15, 1904+1 This forbearance gives time to hear testing truths and receive the last call of mercy, and fulfillment of prophecy strengthens faith and courage in Christ's final triumph.Ms 47, 1906, par. 18+1 The third angel's message must be proclaimed before God punishes transgressors, for the world must be warned first and judgment is near.Ms 194, 1901, par. 2

The message marks the present solemn hour when people live on the verge of the eternal world with cases being tried in heavenly courts, calling for putting away sin and earnestly working to save others.RH Jan 3, 1907 It calls people to prepare now rather than put judgment and end of probation far in the future, proclaiming the day at hand as the last mercy with no time to lose and more determined efforts.Lt 115, 1903, par. 8–9+1 Believers were living under the third angel's message even though its loud cry was still future, and that coming loud cry connects with the close of Christ's work in the Most Holy Place and His move to the altar of incense to complete the antitypical atonement, bringing unprecedented prayer and confession before the atonement ends.RH Feb 14, 1856 God's people have not worked as they should nor understood the work in the heavenly sanctuary, yet before Christ executes judgment His law must be made known so all desiring light will have light, requiring the gospel ministry to increase in efficiency as the great enlightening agency with more laborers including medical knowledge of disease, its causes, care of the sick, and laws of health and the body.Ms 194, 1901, par. 9+1 Those heeding the warning of final judgments are identified as His people and will escape the seven last plagues, and its fulfilling prophecy calls for repentance and reform over God's broken law and work in sharing the warning to prepare to meet God by obeying His Word, surrendering to Christ to be shaped and converted.Ms 143, 1901, par. 1–2+3

The call to worship the Maker points to the seventh-day Sabbath as the memorial, sign and loyalty test identifying the living Creator.8T 94.1–3+4 It is the day God blessed and set apart after creation as humanity's rest day and as the sign of loyalty between God and His people, required especially by the fourth commandment.Lt 98, 1900, par. 1–8+2 Keeping the true Sabbath plainly told in Exodus 31 is worship of the Creator, and its keeping is the sign of the loyalty of God's people.8T 94.1–3+1 God has not changed that day, and a false Sabbath will be promoted and made a test for all.Lt 38, 1909, par. 5–10

Keeping the seventh-day Sabbath declares who the living God is, distinguishes Him from false gods, and shows His authority, power and creative work.GC88 690.1–691.3+2 Keeping it is therefore connected with giving glory to God and worshiping Him, and this reason for worship applies to all worship, not only worship on the seventh day, and remains as long as God is Creator.GC88 690.1–691.3+1 Such worship requires obedience to His law, for without obedience worship is not pleasing to God.GC88 436.1 Keeping God's commandments is the whole duty of humanity and expresses love for Him, while refusing to hear His law makes even prayer an abomination.GC88 436.1

Worshiping God as Maker means openly conforming to the law of Jehovah, becoming more and more distinct from the world and refusing to assimilate with it.Ms 10, 1900, par. 19–22 It means making visible conformity to His law by observing the Sabbath, which is the sign between God and His people and the mark of distinction between God's chosen people and the world.Ms 10, 1900, par. 19–22+1 It means letting truth burn upon the altar of the heart, separating from all iniquity and from all false dealing and dishonesty, and taking a stand where the glory of God can shine.Ms 71, 1903, par. 41 His law stands immutable and eternal through eternal ages, and obedience builds the waste places.RH Nov 20, 1913+1

Observing the true Sabbath is how Christians ever bear faithful witness to the world that they know the Creator God, the true and living God distinguished from all false gods and exalted above them.8MR 100.1+1 It stands in contrast to the spurious Sunday sabbath exalted against it, separating those who keep God's commandments from those who break them and enforce Sunday observance.Lt 118, 1900, par. 8–12 The Sabbath sign is received in the forehead, meaning in the mind, and unlike a mark imposed through force, God's seal is not given through compulsory worship.4SP 505.2–3

The message exposes that the only true God has been forsaken, His law discarded and His Sabbath trampled by the man of sin.Ms 32, 1896, par. 4–6+2 The plain fourth commandment has been ignored, its memorial torn down, a breach made in the law of God, and a spurious papal sabbath given to the world that cannot be a true standard.Ms 32, 1896, par. 4–6+2 It reproves homage paid to an institution of the Papacy that makes the law of Jehovah of no effect, and brings increase of knowledge on the Sabbath subject.1MR 43.4–44.1 It must be presented so plainly that every transgressor who hears it discerns the importance of obedience to the Sabbath commandment, teaching the perpetuity of the law of Jehovah and making men see the importance God attaches to His holy law.RH Mar 26, 1908

Changing the seventh-day Sabbath to the first day made a breach in that law to be repaired, with the Sabbath restored by teaching and example and by returning to allegiance to God's law.LSEGW 96.2+1 Keeping the Sabbath would preserve people from idolatry, since the fourth commandment identifies the living Creator.LS 236.2–3 To worship Him that made heaven, earth, sea and fountains is to worship God as Creator by keeping the seventh-day Sabbath holy.Ms 16, 1890, par. 73–76+2 Contempt for that sanctified day is contempt for the Creator, and as Satan leads people to trample on the Sabbath, God's people are to defend and exalt His law with greater zeal.Ms 16, 1890, par. 73–76

In the last days Sabbath-keeping is the great test drawing the line of demarcation between him that serves God and him that serves Him not.12MR 214.3–215.1+1 Keeping the day holy acknowledges before the universe that God made the world by His power and that life is found in obedience.12MR 214.3–215.1+1 The commandment's place at the center of the ten commandments and its special witness to God's creative authority connect Sabbath observance with worship of the Creator, and its binding claims must be clearly presented and will test the world.LSEGW 95.3–5+1 The prophecy grounds the warning that all classes except the little flock will unite to exalt Sunday and enforce its observance by stringent laws.4SP 501.3–502.1

People are to examine Scripture and learn the truth about the Sabbath, with knowledge of this subject to increase.Ms 32, 1896, par. 4–6+1 They are to exalt the Sabbath before the world, oppose forcing men to accept a spurious Sabbath, and in the closing perilous work turn from a man-made institution back to the true Sabbath.8T 94.1–3+2 The facts concerning the Lord's Sabbath must be made known, showing that the seventh-day Sabbath is the Lord's memorial of creation and presenting the Scripture evidences for its observance.Lt 38, 1906, par. 8–9 This Sabbath truth is to be made prominent in teaching and carried to every place where an opening can be found, and having been established on solid evidence since 1844 it is to be held firmly with nothing given up, built upon solid rock with a secure foundation that no new message can unsettle.Lt 38, 1906, par. 8–9

The call to worship God as Creator and give Him glory is contradicted when people who profess that message serve worldly gain, neglect God's commandments, or fail to keep the Sabbath.1T 150.1–2 Their conduct should show that this world is not their god, but sharp dealing and eagerness to gain the best end of every bargain undermine that witness.1T 150.1–2+1 After the disappointment when 1843 passed God in mercy gave a tarrying time so the Scriptures could be more fully investigated and a better understanding gained of many features of faith.Lt 102, 1908, par. 5 In that tarrying time light was given regarding the fourth commandment showing the importance of keeping the seventh day, and that Sabbath truth belongs to the worldwide warning work to be done, heralded to all parts of the world through the publication of truth as a bright witness amid moral darkness.Ms 6, 1878, par. 7–10+1 Keeping the Sabbath and closing business on that day is itself a sermon that arouses conscience, calls attention to the Creator, and directs curious minds to study the truth.Ms 6, 1878, par. 7–10

The three messages are one inseparable threefold message, three only in the order of their rise, divinely fixed so its place cannot be removed or changed, with the first not ceasing when the second and third begin because the word for followed means to go with and accompany, and all are to be understood, received, combined and proclaimed together worldwide as the God-given message for this time.GC88 685.3+4 They belong to the Lord's great day of preparation, mean far more than most comprehend, and place the proclamation in earth's closing scenes where the final conflict is between commandment-keepers and those making void His law.17MR 236.1–2+1 The present work comprehends the two preceding messages and goes forth as a burning lamp, with the Spirit accompanying it to susceptible hearts seeking truth as hidden treasure to renew the mind and cause rejoicing in obedience.Ms 124, 1901, par. 1–2+3

The verse is the everlasting gospel flown in the midst of heaven to every nation, kindred, tongue and people with a loud call to fear God, give Him glory because judgment is come, and worship the Maker of heaven, earth, sea and fountains of waters, followed by the fall of Babylon and the third angel's warning against worshiping the beast and his image and receiving his mark, closing with the patience of the saints who keep God's commandments and the faith of Jesus.GC 453.3+4 It was committed as the last message of mercy when Christ entered the most holy place to perform the closing work of atonement, is the last message before the Lord comes to prepare people for the day of God, and immediately after its proclamation the Son of man appears in glory to reap the earth's harvest.GC 453.3+2 The first angel's proclamation of the hour of judgment comes before the second angel's proclamation of the fall of mystic Babylon and before the third angel's message which follows them both, in fixed sequential order.Ms 32, 1896, par. 15+4

The verse belongs to the first angel's message representing the second advent message given to the church and the world, with five angels in the chapter representing five distinct messages to be given before the advent.WLF 10.5 The word heaven in Revelation 14:6-7 refers to the church of God on earth.WLF 6.7–9 The verse is also described as part of the third angel's message, whose power concentrates the first and second messages and in which the first and second are united and complete as the last testing message to be proclaimed forcefully as a life-and-death work of separation gathering people out of the churches to stand on eternal truth.10MR 218.3–219.1+4 Letting light shine by establishing memorials hastens that worldwide proclamation, and understanding and doing this duty is required to stand clear in God's sight.Lt 133, 1903, par. 26–27

Together with its context it presents the third angel's message as the full gospel for the last days to be given before Christ's return, calling people to fear God, give Him glory and worship Him as Creator because judgment is come, leading into the warning about worshiping the beast and receiving its mark.Ms 132, 1906+4 Proclaiming it in its time and order is missionary work for salvation calling for giving self and means with freewill offerings to carry the work into regions beyond.3MR 256.2–3 The first message is the first step of a firm platform of established faith built by God step by step through much suffering and severe conflict, vital because destinies depend on reception, with God's approbation on those standing firm and woe on anyone moving a block or stirring a pin to improve the foundation.EW 220.1+2 To find fault, step off to examine, or wish it more perfect is to fight God as Master Builder, while those remaining firm glorify Him with a loud voice and call back those who left.DTCP 6.2

Together with Christ's ministration in the heavenly sanctuary the message is truth sought point by point by prayerful study and testified by miracle-working power and the Holy Spirit, to be preserved and held firmly with the grip of faith as a foundation waymark and fundamental principle based on unquestionable authority that made a commandment-keeping people against every phase of heresy and every effort to tear it down or put other messages in its place.Ms 44, 1905, par. 20–21+1 To give up the third is to give up the first and second, and to give up all three is to give up the Word and Christian experience and become an infidel, so carriers must be perfectly united in Bible truth, consult together, test every new view by the Bible before spreading it, tell the same story east and west, north and south, and never tame the message to gain entrance into churches, for it is children's bread for starving sheep not to be given to dogs.3MR 401.2–402.2+1 The verse is to be proclaimed in unity with the second and third with power multiplied by combined proclamation, as the church on earth unites with heaven to glorify God in preparing for the second coming with power and great glory, a work requiring entire consecration.Lt 1a, 1895, par. 4

It is to be combined as a peculiar faith kept uplifted without linking with the world or sacrificing one jot to gain converts, deciding eternal destiny, proclaimed in new places and all cities in highways not only by-ways as a burning lamp by greatly multiplied Spirit-controlled ministers including those trained in medical missionary work rather than only for outcasts.Lt 139, 1898, par. 12–16 Clearer understanding of the first and second prepared believers to receive and proclaim the third angel's solemn world warning, and the third would have explained the 1844 disappointment, cast light on the past, revived hope and led to giving glory to God and pointing to Sabbath reform where the patient saints keep the day guarded by the fourth commandment, though beast, image and mark were not yet clearly understood.GC88 432.1+2 The verse was given in 1843 and 1844 before the second and in order toward the third, now proclaimed under the third, yet all three are still to be proclaimed and repeated now with their order and the prophecies bringing to the third shown by pen and voice, because there cannot be a third without the first and second.1MR 53.1

Daniel's prophecies have their proper place in the three messages, the unsealing of the little book is the message in relation to time, and the special light of the seven thunders delineating events under the first and second was not to be known because faith must be tested, with the first and second to do their specific work from 1842 to 1844, the longest reckoning reaching to autumn 1844, after which prophetic time is not definitely traced.1MR 99.2+2 As the first angel's message it is proclaimed at the time of the end when Daniel's sealed testimony is unsealed, complemented by John's revelation from the Lion of the tribe of Judah carrying forward to earth's last scenes, of infinite importance, understood by the wise who are purified and made white and tried while the wicked and rejecters of light on God's law do not understand.Lt 59, 1896, par. 5–7+1 As the first angel's message within the three, its unfolding truths are connected with God's overruling providence and leadership through the Advent movement, so confidence in past leadership gives confidence for the future.LSEGW 428.3 As the first angel's message it is to be repeated proclaiming Christ's second advent to the world, lightening the earth with the Lord's glory, with power given to those following the Lamb from the angel having great power.Ms 91, 1898, par. 5+1

The verse belongs to the prophecies of Revelation 12 to 18 being fulfilled now as the last warning all are to hear, and its theme with its context is that the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.Ms 5, 1878, par. 19–21+1 The messages deepen and widen in influence, live as abiding ever-living truth not extinct despite intense opposition and Satan's effort to cast shadow so the remnant shall not discern import, time and place, moving thousands of hearts and bringing into existence schools, publishing houses and health institutions to cooperate in the warning while exerting power on religious experience while time lasts.17MR 236.1–2+4 Its light is combined in the later illumination of Revelation 18 with the third proclaiming its warning loudly, swelling into a loud cry increasing in the Spirit's power until the whole earth is lightened, preparing the way for another angel, with force continuing as long as time for repentance is given and requiring diligent Scripture study, zeal and determination.6T 17.3–18.1+4

Its proclamation is the commandments of God and the faith and testimony of Jesus held high as a banner with a loud unfeeble voice, warning the world will soon face the Lawgiver over His broken law which His people must magnify, honor, uphold and make honorable, with great issues never put out of sight in this solemn work preparing a people for Christ's coming.4MR 432.3–433.2+4 The united first and second embraced in the third is the message for the present time.Lt 74, 1900, par. 9 As part of the third angel's message its purpose is to prepare a people to stay true during the investigative judgment, and work carried forward in God's cause serves that purpose.1MR 228.2

Revelation 14:7 is present truth and the everlasting gospel for this time, the last warning and final call of mercy to every nation, kindred, tongue and people to prepare a people to stand in the great day of God and meet Him at Christ's second coming.Ms 130, 1905, par. 3–4+4 It uplifts a crucified and risen Saviour before those without God and without hope, calls for pastors, teachers and evangelists, warns of a conflict in which every individual will have a part, and pronounces blessing on those who read, hear and do it.Ms 130, 1905, par. 3–4+2 It belongs to the prophecies of Revelation 12-18 now being fulfilled, is the final testing message to be brought plainly to all people everywhere, and includes the warning about last-day wickedness and the mark of the beast.Ms 75, 1906, par. 16+2 It brings believers into working order in connection with gospel ministry as loyal commandment-keeping subjects of God's kingdom, zealous of good works.Lt 45, 1900, par. 5–8+1

It is to be carried worldwide through clear, distinct, genuine missionary work after God's wisdom, not after men’s devising, in clear straight lines and distinctive features, not only in a few places but without delay to all nations, continents, islands, languages, distant lands and neglected places close by.Ms 139, 1903, par. 9–11+4 Extensive work still remains, cities are of special importance, multitudes dwell unwarned and unsaved close by, and carefully selected workers are to labor two and two in harmony with experienced leaders under Christ’s direction and commission.14MR 151.2–6+2 Its force and importance increase as the close of God’s work on earth is reached and will not decrease, shown by the angel flying in heaven, the loud voice and the call to every nation as a rapid proclamation increasing in strength until the earth is filled with God’s glory and lightened with it.Ms 139, 1903, par. 9–11+4 There is no time to lose, for it belongs to the closing work of earth’s history.18MR 27.3–28.2+2

Proclaiming it is the burden of the last-day work with pen and voice in publications, discourses, printed literature, tracts, leaflets, books, camp-meetings and personal labor, showing its order and the application of Daniel and John which interpret each other, making truth plain upon tables.1MR 43.1–2+4 The press with facilities multiplied a hundredfold, Bibles, house-to-house opening of the Bible, circulating publications and personal effort beyond preaching alone are required to give it swiftly in many languages, since published truth can go where the preached Word cannot.3T 207.2+3 Preaching reaches a class who would not receive truth through reading, but ministers are few, so personal effort accomplishes far more than preaching without it, the trumpet must give no uncertain sound pealing forth all day to thousands, and after one place is reached the message must go to many more places beyond.SBAWP 47.1–2+2 Publishing houses are agencies represented by the angel flying in the midst of heaven, to cooperate with heaven’s delegates in preaching the everlasting gospel worldwide and sounding the loud call to fear God and give Him glory because judgment has come.7T 139.3–140.3

Pamphlets and books of present truth are required in English, German, French, Swedish, Danish and Italian, training men of other nations and tongues as missionaries, translators and publishers, spending means carefully with no dollar spent needlessly, moving with speed, promptness and wisdom because Satan is already astir to hedge up the way.8MR 215.1–3 New fields must be opened with workers laboring two and two in harmony with experienced counsel, ministers not hovering over churches, and every sanctified tongue and every soul accepting Jesus acting as God’s agent in the closing work.Ms 139, 1903, par. 9–11+3 It must be lifted as a standard and openly confessed before men and angels, especially in cities and towns not yet hearing it, in ordered prophetic sequence, carried out of formed churches into new fields, towns and unentered places to add territory, through well-organized labor proportioned as a harmonious whole, camp meetings near or in cities and distributing literature.Lt 129, 1898, par. 12+4 When servants fail to gain admission to churches it is to be carried to the people by camp meetings and literature so truth shines in clear steady rays, with no word creating dissension when avoidable.Lt 177, 1900, par. 17–19+2

The truths must be heard in large cities and new fields through a great city work with earnest plans, releasing workers tied where many interests center, spending money to support the living preacher where wisely expended labor will be effective, for the printed page alone cannot do the work.12MR 165.1–166.1 The living minister explains the Scriptures, prays with the people, appeals to them and makes Bible truths effective, so one living discourse with angels setting home the words may do what many publications could not, and the work calls for many men and women with ability to preach, teach and live the Word.12MR 165.1–166.1 Work in one place like Southern California, including medical missionary work, must be done with reference to other parts of the field, duly considering worldwide progress and showing heaven-born interest in every plan, with talents and divine wisdom, skill and tact bearing heaven’s inscription.Ms 99, 1901, par. 7–8 Concentrating resources in one city or absorbing means in one place retards its worldwide spread and hinders light and knowledge reaching all nations.Ms 99, 1901, par. 7–8+1

Medical missionary work prepares the way as the entering wedge and right hand and arm, not the body, never to eclipse the message, with health principles presented alongside it not independently or in place of it, opening fast-closed doors and hearts through sanctified skill and care of the sick.Lt 205, 1899, par. 11–12+3 Physicians, managers and workers in any line faithfully acting their part diffuse its light to every nation, kindred, tongue and people, draw men and women where God leads, turn wealth and talent from material to eternal realities, and lead sufferers to see truth that saves soul as well as body, with angels awakening spiritual joy and thanksgiving.CH 361.2+2 Sanitariums and other God-appointed institutions have a special part through spiritual atmosphere, influence and example, established expressly to proclaim it and reflect its light to those around and to health seekers, placed out of cities but near them to warn people.12MR 310.1–311.1+3 Well-trained medical missionaries sent from centers of influence carry this mercy to unworked harvest fields, joined with practical lines including care for the needy, revival of health reform, higher holier standards, and daily conversion.12MR 310.1–311.1+3

The special warning must not be made secondary to medical missionary work, and the message must not be eclipsed or blanketed by medical work absorbing means and attention, with medical work standing to it only as arm to body, never as the body itself, kept proportionately balanced so church as well as medical work is helped.Ms 128, 1903, par. 44+3 Assimilating with the world leaves a false impression that the warning is secondary, and hearers must come to their senses, show genuine faith and spirituality, come out and be separate, and change worldly practices in health institutions.Ms 128a, 1903, par. 32+2 Advance requires establishing schools on the Madison order in various parts of the South to prepare workers, sanitariums on the right hand and on the left for physical and spiritual healing, securing valuable properties when offered far below real value, and molding education of physicians and students, helping the afflicted without first asking if they are Sabbathkeepers.Lt 32, 1908, par. 24+3 Favorable openings are divinely provided to advance rapidly by faith even when money is not in hand, workers capable of right instruction are to be encouraged with loans and gifts, surplus money tied in houses, lands and bank stock is to be used rather than spent on unnecessary things, story magazines or cheap literature, and temperance work belongs to this warning.Lt 185, 1900, par. 5+3

Students using and selling God-provided books in unworked cities while supporting themselves is the appointed way to carry it, presenting precious light line upon line, precept upon precept, gaining an all-around missionary education instead of conferences taxing themselves to liquidate school debts.Ms 137, 1906, par. 2–4 Means must be used carefully so work is not built largely in a few places but spreads to every needy field including the southern states.Lt 310, 1907, par. 9–10+1 Destitute places must be worked and work bound about rather than enlarged at Takoma Park and Washington where school, sanitarium and publishing house already gather more responsibilities than can be handled and draw workers who should be in needy fields.Lt 4, 1910, par. 3+1 Each locality is to aid others, and God’s facilities, talent and wealth are not to be used exclusively in favorite lines or localities while universal work is left undone for want of means.Lt 4, 1910, par. 3+1 Tithe money is to be kept sacred for proclaiming it where not yet preached, including missions in other fields, with freewill offerings, self-denial, saving in clothing and needless spending, and sale of land increasing in value and idle money to support workers.Lt 81, 1897, par. 4–5+4 Proclaiming it in time and order is missionary work for salvation calling for giving self and means into the region beyond.Lt 137, 1895, par. 3+1

Those who carry it must have living faith, humility, surrender, sanctification, oneness and love, putting away self-sufficiency, pride, self-importance, self-indulgence, idolatry, faultfinding and criticism, praying more and talking less, pressing together, dying to self, loving as brethren, kind and courteous.Lt 66, 1901, par. 32–34+3 Wide-awake churches must move in harmony with God’s deepening widening plan embracing the world, embracing new territory and seizing every opportunity, with those remaining at home adding souls and sending prayers as sharp sickles with missionaries going in holy zeal.Lt 66, 1901, par. 32–34+2 Giving it requires cooperation with Jesus, study of Revelation, health, fortitude, pure unadulterated faith, daily conversion, definite spiritual experience, and preserving individuality, refusing to unite with secret societies or trade unions and standing free in God looking constantly to Christ.Lt 110, 1902, par. 19+4 Leaving out principles of present truth lets skepticism enter, misrepresents Christ, fails to watch unto prayer and loses endorsement, while receiving riches of grace from the Word enables help to the needy and keeps distinct the line between servers of God and others.Ms 137, 1902, par. 13–14+1

Young and old are to be educated to go forth in humility without losing a moment, lifting the voice in prayer and song, for song is one of the most effective means of impressing spiritual truth upon the heart and unsealing the springs of penitence and faith.MYP 217.2–3+2 Angels go with workers teaching how to pray, sing and proclaim, Christ teaches use of abilities, and the Holy Spirit’s quickening refreshes minds to present words new and strangely beautiful.MYP 217.2–3+2 In the future common men impressed by the Spirit will leave ordinary employment to proclaim it for conversion of sinners even in rough places, cooperating with unseen heavenly agencies as laborers together with God, willing to spend and be spent.RH Jul 4, 1907+1 They are to be quickly prepared, strengthened, encouraged, respected, sped with prayer and never hindered by unjust speeches, scorn, discourtesy or taunting words, with Bible courtesy opening hearts so the trumpet gives a certain sound, and children’s voices will also help make it known.RH Jul 4, 1907+2

The verse calls for sowing truth beside all waters among white and colored people in the South, with talented converts answering calls, publishing work in Nashville providing suitable reading, help sought even from sympathizing unbelievers, and building churches and establishing schools and sanitariums, because saving souls outweighs honor, convenience and pleasure.Ms 64, 1902, par. 21–23+1 Among colored people it is to go through converted workers as faithful ministers and teachers, with more buildings and missionaries and less commercial enterprise and guarded use of means, because increasing prejudice will make white labor for them almost impossible in many places.9T 207.5–208.1+3 Satan works with all ingenuity to prevent it and stir antagonism claiming it breaks churches and brings trouble over the Sabbath, yet neglect to arouse with means and labor will leave no excuse when judgment comes.2MR 76.2–78.1+1 As part of the third message it must be proclaimed not only in distant lands but in nearby unwarned places especially cities, with genuine faith shown by works and separation from the world, health work kept secondary, and bearers prepared with clean hands and free vessels for the latter rain and discernment of prophecy and signs.RH Apr 7, 1910+4 Its loud voice symbolizes present truth proclaimed everywhere with power, flying ever onward without losing force until the whole earth is lightened, soon sounding in a great outpouring requiring preparation now.Ms 61, 1909, par. 13+1

Because of the worth of the soul and the cross of Calvary, its worldwide work is the all-important work for this time, to be far-reaching as eternity with nothing permitted to hinder it, with every soul accepting Jesus as light of the world called to preach to every creature.ST Jan 25, 1910 People in the home, school and church are to prepare to carry its loud-voiced message forward with increasing power until the whole earth is filled with God’s glory.Lt 134, 1901, par. 26–28 Including the Sabbath truth, its messages are to be proclaimed clearly and simply in different languages so churches can be prepared for the next angel’s message.Lt 92, 1900, par. 37–39 Proclaiming it requires workers, means, personal missionary labor with steady influence and talents used in its service, with the missionary spirit vivifying workers, not hovering over churches or narrowing Pharisaical rules or lax methods that blind eyesight and leave work stagnant.Lt 159, 1900, par. 6+2 Sounding it to prepare the way for Christ’s coming calls for earnest, cheerful, whole-hearted, unselfish workers in line with divine purposes as laborers together with God and heavenly intelligences, sacrificing even to loss of life in self-denial by His power alone in view of the Son’s infinite sacrifice.ST Jan 9, 1901+2

Its truths must be clearly comprehended by earnest prayerful study taxing the mind to the utmost, plainly presented in God's own words with few human explanations and no clouding theories, demonstrated in daily life and dwelling on Christ's lessons and practical godliness.1MR 57.2+2 They are essential to salvation and require earnest study as embraced within the third.1MR 57.2+1 While angels hold the four winds special effort must advance to learn and teach and prepare a people to stand.STMW9 21.2+1 The warning kept before God's people for twenty years must now go to multitudes in cities who never heard it, requiring pledges to remain silent no longer.Ms 25, 1910, par. 27–28+1 The work depends on believers, resting as individual duty on every believer to glorify God before probation closes through words and actions proclaiming God's law fearlessly, with the sacred trust guarded and kept foremost and nothing allowed to eclipse it.Lt 39, 1901, par. 5–6+3

The solemn warning is entrusted to covenant-keeping people to proclaim to the world and fallen churches with courage as their most important soul-saving work.Lt 12a, 1910, par. 3–6 In a special sense it is entrusted to Seventh-day Adventists as watchmen with nothing else absorbing attention, calling hundreds to house-to-house work with books and papers.Ms 53, 1910, par. 5–8 Solid faith is to be in harmony with the three angels' declarations, and understanding them brings strength so experienced men having it are precious and should husband strength.Lt 215b, 1899, par. 15–17+1

The message is sent to wake professed believers out of spiritual lethargy, worldliness and backsliding, to lead them to reform, to separate them from corrupting worldly influence, and to prepare them to stand in the day of God and meet the Lord.GC88 311.1–2+4
Like the preaching of John the Baptist it is a searching warning to sinners in the world and in the church to repent in view of judgment, exposing false security and demanding fruits of repentance.GC 369.1–2+2
Applied by the Holy Spirit it convicts of backsliding, worldliness, unbelief, pride and selfishness, turning affections from earth to heaven and leading to humility, seeking salvation and pardon and peace in Christ, restitution for dishonesty, reconciliation of parents and children, sharing peace with others, confession of sin, and earnest prayer for forgiveness and the conversion of others.GC 369.1–2+2
Those who receive its light rejoice, look to Jesus and join in proclaiming it, while those who reject it oppose and mock, and embracing it in its time brought crushing opposition from denominational churches by prejudice, ridicule, sneers and criticism, with believers treated as heretics disturbing the peace.SG1 144.2–146.2+2
The preaching of the first message joined with the second brings good fruit with distinct spirit and power, putting a new song in the mouth, keeping Christ's excellencies and matchless love before the mind, letting the Sun of righteousness rise in the heart, turning lukewarmness to zealous repentance, leading to buy tried gold and white raiment and eyesalve, to find the Pearl of great price, to speak of His love and power, and moving hearts to confession of wrongs to believers and unbelievers and to restitution.16MR 231.1

Accepted with humble hearts and sincere preparation to stand before God it would have corrected the evils separating the church from Him and brought renewed manifestation of the Spirit and power with unity, faith and love, but many chose worldly wisdom and turned from its heart-searching call.GC88 311.1–2+3
In 1844 many ministers failed to recognize the signs, resisted because it came largely through laypeople, discouraged study of prophecy or feared exclusion, and rejecting it led to worldliness, backsliding and spiritual death with churches falling from favor.GC 369.1–2+4
Many bent under opposition and yielded faith to preserve unity and keep their place, while those who could not conscientiously yield held fast and were turned out, and after the passing of the time God gave strikingly clear light on the third message showing prophetic whereabouts and placing feet in a sure path.Ms 37, 1890, par. 16
There was a shut door in 1844 turning on response to it, so those who saw the light of the first and second messages and rejected it were left in darkness, those who accepted it with the Holy Spirit attending and afterward renounced their faith and called their experience delusion rejected the Spirit so He no longer pleaded, while those who never saw the light lack that guilt.Ms 4, 1883, par. 26–27
Only the class despising the light from heaven becomes unreachable, including both refusers when presented and after-receivers who renounced, who may keep a form of godliness and profess Christ but having no living connection will be taken by Satan's delusions, and the wicked of the world rejecting light are rejected of God.Ms 4, 1883, par. 26–27

Its power and glory came from heaven, and rejecting it and calling the Spirit's work demonic is grave rejection of divine light.5MR 426.2
Those not hardened can still come to understand and joyfully accept the earlier messages as they see how truths connect, but those rejecting the Spirit's work in the first messages and refusing to hear the third will be shut out.5MR 426.2
After the disappointment many took it to mean the world had received its last warning and gospel work was finished, later recognizing further messages would follow and that judgment takes place in heaven before Christ comes, where the righteous are judged and acquitted while Jesus is Advocate and receive eternal life at His return in the antitypical Day of Atonement and cleansing where Christ ministers in the most holy place to blot out sins of His faithful people.GC88 684.6–685.2
Rejecting the first leaves people unable to benefit from later messages or to follow Jesus by faith into the most holy place, while receiving and understanding the connected sequence in order and following Jesus into the sanctuary anchors against Satan's deceptions.EW 221.1+2
Those experienced in the earlier messages must guide newer believers, those without experience must learn them from those who followed them, accepting only part of truths connected with the third leaves no part in the matter, and proclamation calls for workers with that experience.SG1 75.1+3

The message warns, tests and proves people whether they will remain loyal to truth and principles, deciding destiny by obedience or disobedience, with resistance provoked by its light showing it is the testing message for this time.STPW91 18.2+4
It is to reach all nations and languages so those seeing light may turn from transgression to obedience to God's law, to be done steadily forward with unselfishness in humble dependence on providence, committing present and future to Him, neither despising nor fearing enemies, never binding by contracts with those not of faith nor uniting with them in counsel on vital interests, holding confidence firm to the end, receiving blessings not for human worthiness but for Christ's worthiness by faith.STPW91 18.2+2
Hearing brings enlightenment and testing according to light received, confronting hearers with a choice leading either to conviction and conversion or condemnation without excuse, and those refusing to be enlightened throw away their last chance.5MR 300.2–3+3
Those abandoning truth and refusing to give the warning depart from faith, leave the path God leads, follow false paths under Satan's deception until they recognize the wrath of the Lamb.10MR 172.2+1
It is infallible and the great decisive test for the whole human family, to be stuck to and kept in the mouth to cut away evils like a hammer breaking flinty rocky hearts and like fire consuming dross and rubbish of error and sin, with each setting his own soul in order in earnest faith and refusing to be switched by Satan into side issues and false waymarks.Ms 50, 1886, par. 2

It embraces the whole gospel and heavenly treasures united with God's commandments and testimony of Jesus, to be the great leading interest holding first place through ministry of the Word calling minds to Scripture, constantly advancing adding territory to territory until it belts the world, working in man the changes evidencing grace, so no one can preach Christ as He is while having nothing to do with these special messages.Ms 178, 1899, par. 10–14+2
The gospel must go with righteousness through a crucified and risen Saviour and the faith of Jesus as broad outlines of eternal truth, not a detached loose unconnected doctrine but one varied precious gem in one string with Christ's person and work as living center, linked in one grand practical essential whole for salvation by faith sinking self to dust, deciding every case for life or death.Ms 199, 1899, par. 10
It proclaims with a loud voice the uplifted Saviour as sacrifice for the sins of the whole world, inviting all to justification through faith in the Surety and Christ's righteousness manifest in obedience to all commandments, directing eyes to His divine person, merits and changeless love.14MR 128.2–129.1
The hour come means Christ appears in efficacious work as the Lamb slain on the throne dispensing priceless covenant blessings purchased by death for every believing soul, pleading in heavenly courts for those bought with His blood, an atoning sacrifice whose efficacy ages cannot diminish, with all power to impart His righteousness to the helpless agent, to be proclaimed with large outpouring of the Spirit so the world can no longer say law is preached without Christ.14MR 128.2–129.1
It proclaims the everlasting gospel promised in Eden that the woman's seed would bruise the serpent's head, the first promise of a Saviour contesting and prevailing over Satan, with Christ come to represent God's character as in His holy law which is a transcript of His character, Christ being both law and gospel, the angel proclaiming law because gospel brings obedience whereby characters are formed after the divine similitude.1MR 44.2

Like Noah's warning before the Flood it warns, tests and proves the world and brings decision despite scoffers, calling to fear God and keep commandments including the Sabbath because wrath will soon fall in general conflagration, met now with the same reasoning that God is too merciful to destroy sinners and save only few.Ms 5, 1876, par. 7–8+4
Carried by publications scattered through the land and in other languages to all tongues and nations it decides destiny, calling all to turn from transgression to obedience to law, and must be faithfully proclaimed to the present generation despite scoffers just as Noah warned though unbelief did not stop judgment.STPW 18.2+3
The days of Noah show people may hear and make partial changes without completing needed reform of character to fear and worship God, and the ark builders' self-glory and departure from instructions show true worship requires obedience, with Noah and his family alone remaining righteous.Ms 200, 1899, par. 7–8
As the majority of Jews prided in superior advantages yet made no returns, so the majority even of professed Christians will make none, and as antediluvians scorned Noah so today's pleasure-lovers reject the message from faithful servants while absorbed in business and pleasures as wrath is about to fall on transgressors, after light, warning, counsel and admonition in infinite mercy announcing Christ at the door and God's broken law, which few obey.5T 99.4
Embracing the first and second brought crushing opposition, and after the time God gave clear light on the third anchoring against delusions, with the messages linked together and flying in heaven symbolizing proclaiming all three together as abiding ever-living truth meaning much, whose evidences are not extinct though Satan seeks to cast hellish shadow so the remnant shall not discern import, time and place.1MR 56.2+1

Proclaiming it brings determined opposition from powers of darkness combined with churches in the last battle between darkness and light, where every true child fights bravely on Christ's side and those confused about antichrist place themselves on antichrist's side.1MR 56.2+1
As it goes with clear decided notes growing stronger and more decided, false theories by specious devising clothed in righteousness oppose, every weapon is drawn, satanic forces counterwork by making void God's law, and there are close severe conflicts, with proclaimers continually confronted by obstacles as Satan and evil men combine for disaster, deception and ruin.Ms 200, 1903, par. 19+2
Presenting its truth exposes Satan's delusions, so Satan brings all powers to discourage, storm to the front, become angry, hinder, even wrecking meeting tents, yet he cannot prevail against Christ, so proclaimers must not give up for difficulties but continue presenting a Thus saith the Lord, remembering God is helper and refusing the enemy right of way.19MR 393.4–5
Before final judgments these truths will help bring revival of primitive godliness with many leaving churches where love of world displaced love for God and His Word, which Satan will try to hinder with counterfeit revival.GC88 464.1
Satan centers determined efforts on those having third-angel light, and unless those knowing truth for these last days are established and settled they will be strongly tempted, for through wiles he will bring conditions to deceive if possible the very elect, at a time when the world comes more under evil agencies and judgment is soon to come.Lt 62, 1906, par. 1

A mighty shaking has commenced and will go on to shake out all unwilling to stand and sacrifice, with fearing God and giving Him glory marking the true loyal ones like Cornelius who remain when God separates the disaffected, filling vacancies when the offended apostatize so ranks are not diminished.2MR 57.4+1
Its angel's message is plain truths to awake and move to bold unyielding stand and free sacrifice for God and cause, giving all to buy the field as freewill offering with none compelled, and those unmoved by these plain truths would not be moved by Sinai's thunders and lightnings nor awakened even by an angel speaking.CET 107.3
Its announcement makes faith solemn, calling for lives shaped by duty and faithfulness, not squandered time or conformity to opinion, in view of soon-coming judgment.ST Feb 23, 1882
Proclamation tests loyalty and must move steadily forward in unselfish humble dependence, holding confidence firm to the end through Christ's worthiness by faith, not haphazard but solidly in God's order with medical work closely connected by trustworthy true men, and its giving must reach the largest possible number deciding destiny.RH Aug 4, 1904+2
Those proclaiming this solemn last mercy must be wholly devoted, feel soul worth and responsibility, be purified from error so as not to mislead, live and obey Bible truth bearing fruit sanctified, walk and work humbly with God as laborers together with Him praying more and talking less rather than in self-importance, love as brethren kind and courteous dying to self and pressing together, with those remaining at home adding souls and sending prayers with missionaries as sharp sickles, following Jesus in self-denial giving every spare dollar instead of needless trimmings, understanding quickened by Spirit making known His will in word and deed, awake from stupor devoting money and selves.Lt 66, 1901, par. 32–34+4

Believers must lift the standard not trailing in dust, for abandoning it insults the Lord and turns blessing to curse endangering the soul until repentance lest the candlestick be removed, with watchmen not misleading and souls discerning teaching.Ms 185, 1897, par. 7+1
They must search Scriptures for themselves instead of depending on men, study Daniel and Revelation to be established, hold confidence firm to the end knowing where they stand from proclaiming the messages, cherish past leading, work in unity as a peculiar people rather than through display, and hold fast especially the third rather than abandon for new theories.Ms 32, 1896, par. 15+3
Its proper place is at the time of the end now, not still future, giving signs of Christ's coming and warning the day of God is coming, so putting messages in future misleads about time and shows blindness.Ms 41a, 1896, par. 34+1
Together they are present truth explained step by step as prophecy was fulfilled, not basis for abandoning given light for new exposition, placing proclamation in earth's closing scenes where final conflict is between commandment-keepers and those making void law.Ms 32, 1896, par. 25–26+1
The first, second and third remain living enduring truths shaping experience as long as time for repentance is given, warning Christ is coming with power and great glory, not extinct despite opposition, with force continuing and light of all three combined in Revelation 18, to be proclaimed and explained together with diligent Scripture study and zeal, belonging to the Lord's great day of preparation and meaning more than most comprehend.6T 17.3–18.1+4

The threefold warning is the last message whose rejection brings churches toward the condition foretold by the second angel and in Revelation 18 as they turn from truth and ally with the world, leaving rejecters to believe a lie while open hearts receive light and God's people still in Babylon heed the call to separate and come out.GC 390.1–2+2
Its power concentrated in the third does a life-and-death work of separation gathering people out of churches to stand on eternal truth, and churches refusing truth and holding kindred heresies like exalting the false Sabbath and teaching immortality become fallen Babylon.Lt 209, 1899, par. 4–8+1
The call Come out of her, my people is the same call in Revelation 18 given with boldness and power, repeated by the third angel as the first and second call.Lt 28, 1900, par. 6–8
It is connected to the final call of mercy as judgment on Babylon approaches, important for this period requiring waking, pressing together and advancing as fast as possible.21MR 265.4+1
It belongs to the first of three as prophetic truth for this time presented clearly as reason for faith taking hold of minds, and to messages identifying the continuing Protestant witness calling for decisive reform with force and clarity testifying divine authority, lifting the standard of Christianity especially law, with half-hearted testimony unable to save, followers joining in His spirit with care for suffering and oppressed, trusting Him through trouble.Ms 154, 1903, par. 29+2

It is part of the third angel's solemn warning and God's closing work to be communicated to very many because the great crisis is just before us, with opening providences like institutions near populous districts preparing the way requiring clear discernment, medical work and sanitariums as most important agencies never losing sight of that object, and God restraining evil forces so warning can be delivered calling for many more workers.Lt 148, 1906, par. 6+2
It is truth for this time and fundamental principle now proclaimed worldwide by God's children, solemn work warning an impenitent world of judgment day and Saviour's soon coming in clouds, in which every child is to act and keep informed of progress.Ms 143, 1907, par. 18
It foretells the everlasting gospel to every nation just before the second coming, with salvation through faith in Christ's first advent pointing to His second in glory to redeem His people and share saints' inheritance through faith and obedience, today coupled with signs fulfilled and Lord at the door, followed by the Son of man in clouds, showing preaching Christ's coming and its nearness is essential gospel though giving no authority to set a date or claim delay for stated years.COL 226.2–227.2+1
It must be accepted to be prepared for Christ's second appearing and to enter the marriage supper, without it nominal faith has no oil feeding the lamp, while accepting means doing commandments to have right to the tree of life and enter gates into the city.16MR 268.3
It calls to remember God of heaven Creator of earth absolute in authority with irresistible power, fearing Him the beginning of wisdom, while losing that fear makes men lawless and reckless with demoralizing influence even among professed believers, while only few like Caleb follow fully.Ms 25, 1892, par. 23

It announces judgment on those hindering truth, misusing resources and persisting in greed and worldliness unless thoroughly repent, with God's patience ending, and a proclamation of law going just before Christ comes in majesty to take vengeance, so all are without excuse to return to allegiance lest rebels find no more place in heaven than Satan after rebelling.RH Sep 16, 1862+1
It presents the last warning before judgment helping decide destiny, delayed by selfishness and lack of willing fit messengers while the angel lighting earth waits for human agents to let light shine, so it must go urgently with sense of responsibility because when probation closes there is no further call, as Christ reads motives and thoughts fixing each destiny.Ms 59, 1895, par. 34–39
It decides destiny, so givers must apply truths practically and be examples in eating, drinking, chaste conversation and deportment, temperate free from gluttony, baser passions and hidden grievous sins under sanctity, because indulgence beclouds mind, lessens strength, weakens moral power, makes thoughts unclear and keeps words from Spirit-vitalized power to reach hearts.RH Jun 22, 1916
It calls each soul individually to come to light, believe on Christ sent by Father, obey the Word, surrender to let Him shape and convert, preparing heart mind character for coming events and eternal life by learning of God and sanctification through belief of truth, pointing to coming review deciding every case with hope of heaven's signature.Ms 84, 1910, par. 29+3
Satan with ingenuity engrosses minds with diverting reading closing the heart, spoiling interest in the Word and hindering sanctification so people are untouched.6MR 285.1–2

Those believing should show by holy lives and speech they look for His appearing, with proclaimers going as brave unashamed missionaries and soldiers of the cross with joyful countenances uplifted heads and Sun of Righteousness shining, rejoicing redemption draws nigh, tasting powers of world to come standing on solid Rock not sliding sand unmoved from faith once delivered, strengthened to cope with difficulty representing Christ, with refined educated men and women joining ignoring worldly interests parting friends to proclaim unsearchable riches, proving gospel power exalting character in righteousness and holiness amid danger privation suffering reproach in season and out however unpopular.18MR 137.1–4+4
It is the most solemn message ever borne to arouse the world, to be given with no mingling of truth and error, giving church members opportunity to know they are not walking in truth, deciding every case by obedience or disobedience, with giving glory meaning keeping God's glory distinctly before mind and preserving physical mental spiritual health in eating drinking dressing working, for God accepts no tainted diseased corrupted sacrifice.Ms 42, 1900, par. 17+2
It is the last message for saving sinners in fulfillment of the great commission, to be sown even in rough places by common men impressed by Spirit leaving ordinary employment cooperating with unseen heavenly agencies as laborers together with God spending and spent, to be strengthened encouraged quickly prepared respected bidden Godspeed with prayer and never hindered by unjust speeches scorn or discourtesy, requiring Bible courtesy opening hearts with certain sound to glorify Him in conversion.RH Jul 4, 1907
The last gospel message is given to arouse the church's missionary spirit but is not thoroughly understood, and while some engage others live in careless indifference to requirements, though giving it is every child's work.16MR 205.2+1
To know it and claim belief carries responsibility to active help work doing even more than those with less light, not asleep folding hands but waking, seizing advantages in providence's turning, moving forward in perfect unity pressing battle to gates, watched by many with voices from least expected urging forward while God Christ and angels intensely quell Satan's wrath so plans are not thwarted.20MR 125.7+4

Institutions established to proclaim it must not be governed or counseled by those rejecting truth and transgressing law, and putting known transgressors as counselors and binding with unbelievers divorces from God and silences the warning, as the Sanitarium was expressly to proclaim it.STB 245.4+1
Churches should study Bibles since truth long covered by tradition and ceremonial worship is valueless, while shepherds refuse attention, search Scriptures to condemn warnings and resist what would change doctrinal views into harmony with truth.Ms 65, 1912, par. 37–38
Unrelated theories, hobbies, side issues, disputes over lesser matters, smooth confusing words, scientific theories, spiritualistic sophistries and Living Temple errors must not displace it or entangle givers, but faith must rest on high holy substantial foundation preaching the Word as God marked with Spirit and angels present, teaching truth as in Jesus with godliness heart holiness freedom from selfishness envy jealousy.HSFM 211.5–212.4+4
Scientific spiritualistic philosophy takes minds away, with strong precious men under its spell as foolish virgins, for theories are chaff while message is wheat.Ms 80, 1905, par. 4+1
Health reform and secondary matters must not eclipse or distort it, medical work must not be exalted above gospel ministry which must remain supreme, and giving it means elevating holy perfect law standing unmoved on Rock with truth ever pure elevating ennobling never leading to impurity fanatical extremes or wild vagaries nor to faulting church as cast off claiming to be new messengers, keeping separate from continual error.1MR 291.5–292.1+3

It must go with clear enunciation and great energy in sanctification under Spirit with humility, impressing hearts, in future so abundantly under universal blessing of consecrated men women children that every city and town receives light and earth is filled with knowledge and glory, rooted in truths of 1841-1844 now to be studied, its scroll now unrolling to every nation continent island, requiring best cultivated consecrated talent hid in Christ not novices, with nothing human retarding.Lt 88, 1910, par. 9–10+3
Proclaiming calls for missionary self-giving then means to pay workers and raise standard beyond, sacrificial giving and personal labor to new places as in first visit to Vermont, canvassing in many languages circulating literature instead of fables counteracting truth, with publishers as ministers cooperating with heavenly messengers, converted daily sanctified, and even youth and children proclaiming when elders fail, telling all to obey God rather than men.Lt 31a, 1895, par. 1–4+4
Fire flood earthquake and disasters are His warnings of soon approach giving significance to present scenes, and carefully prepared literature on meaning of events must be circulated everywhere, by which a thousand times more work could be done with full consecration and right talents and Spirit-quickened understanding.ACSMHFP 6.6+1
The warning opens richest treasures with jewels every mind needs calling to go forward to greater understanding, while nominal churches stop anchor claiming all-sufficient light and after warning form confederacy barricading against it refusing light for fear of trapdoor to dangerous pit.Ms 37, 1890, par. 4–5
It demands alert daily practical Christianity fighting intellectual sloth and spiritual stupor, using light for power, readiness for every good work blessing others giving reason for hope, sounded together with the Laodicean message in all phases with justification by faith and Christ's righteousness as themes to perishing world, resting on those now too near closing scenes for inattention or neutrality.Lt 24, 1892, par. 40–41+1

It was established through great difficulties with every obstruction at first at very great cost when believers numbered in small compass and becoming Adventist required experimental sacrifice, advanced by pioneers giving selves and all with fervor whom God loved valued led planting inexperienced feet on Rock, and increased knowledge strengthens faith.Ms 124, 1901, par. 10+2
Its rise and first proclamation belong to early standard-bearers holding fast without loosening till laying off armor, bearing witness like John to seen and heard eternal life, being dead yet speaking with works following, so younger workers entering labors must tenderly esteem treasure words love them as first, with gray-haired pioneers standing in places not dropping out, and its early power in eastern cities applies anew.Ms 41, 1890, par. 12–14+2
From very small beginning it accomplishes great results in heavenly sphere beyond human ambition, separating truth from rubbish revealing pure beauty opening lofty solemn refining grand scenes, borne openly amid moral darkness worldwide moving triumphantly to elevate ennoble purify dignify amid mightiest conflicts touching both worlds linking earth to heaven, with Christ's cross prominent giving vigor showing sin-pardoning Saviour's high broad deep unlimited authority in heart of broken law to forgive.Ms 40, 1890, par. 81–83
It is truth for last days of great conflict proved from Bible words explained through Daniel and Revelation symbols, to be learned thoroughly presented effectively with way prepared and youth trained, because its truth alone holds securely in trouble.Lt 349, 1906, par. 10
Truths especially applying to present are to be studied earnestly prayerfully to understand Christ's position and relation to God and humanity, calling for different order in schools with Word as study book instead of misleading authors, and city dwellers must learn them with medical work opening way.Ms 56, 1898, par. 1–4+2

It is to be shown by teaching and example, bearers revealing truth in daily lives where genuine piety and unselfish love move those resisting arguments.RH Mar 24, 1903+1
To give up its position for some other light such as holiness altogether and come out against testimonies is determined apostasy and delusion, and leaving foundation for any new organization is apostasy, for it is precious present truth entrusted after the time to faithful followers having part in first and second, making Adventists a waymark pillar foundation that cannot be stepped off, belonging to testimony bound up and law sealed among disciples, to be held rock-firm holding confidence to end with banner not taken, rehearsing past history strengthening every pillar as closing work is entered.Ms 129, 1905, par. 5–6+1
It belongs to messages whose rise and progress were connected with special work of God's Spirit, so attention to that work strengthens faith in testimonies and leads to healthy experience.Ms 31, 1890, par. 6
The everlasting gospel is proclaimed by human agents working with heavenly intelligences, Revelation supplementing Daniel with prophecy fulfilling line upon line, more clearly understood standing firmly under third angel's banner accepting light through consecrated servants basing faith on Scripture under Holy Spirit, for messages were given not for utterers but for those living amid fulfillment, with God fulfilling symbols through agents making sacred truth stand amid heresies, the last invitation to marriage supper by remnant to glorify His name.Lt 40, 1895, par. 2+1
Those having present truth must be separate from daily new errors, young and old not attending assemblies teaching commandments of men as poisonous death nor encouraging them, not listening to fables when not obliged lest watchful care cease leaving to enemy buffetings and light contaminated, but stand fast in liberty rejoicing, occupy minds with present truth seeking wisdom for thorough knowledge of position to give reason of hope from Scripture with meekness, for minds hearing false dangerous error cannot dwell on truth fitting Israel to stand in day of Lord.SCEV 45.2–46.1

It has a spirit belonging to past experience requiring same earnest labor now, calling for deep experience and steel-true faithfulness needed in crisis with tact forethought skill, and its progress calls believers to cling to pillars on God's prepared path.Lt 2, 1862, par. 1–3+2
It is eternal truth held from beginning to be promulgated by remnant in last days to swell third angel's distinct certain cry, maintained in increasing importance to close of probation talked prayed presented with pen voice in simplicity economy Christlikeness, among pillars whose true light flashes to end resting on 1843-1844 experience which new theories tearing vitals are false light and those without that experience cannot properly judge, standing on declared testimony of those seeing hearing handling.3MR 301.1+1

It is part of first second third as straight present truth with no spiritualistic thread linking Daniel and Revelation, to be taken up in every city now without delay, with preachers in Spirit having marvelous grasp standing firm.Lt 351, 1905, par. 10
It is part of messages to be revived with great power under Holy Spirit unction as stormy times come, to be proclaimed to all nations though many in Sweden have not heard, requiring zeal proportionate to light securing cooperation of earnest, training laymen by prayer humility to explain truth and organizing classes to convict convert save.Lt 56, 1906, par. 6–8+1

It is to be proclaimed at this time with no faltering hesitancy but power from on high by men of sharp spiritual eyesight discerning truth from error, whose obedience gives assurance that they know whom believed, with proclamation convicting converting.Ms 78, 1903, par. 11
