Revelation 17:16

And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.

The verse belongs to a vision in which Babylon is pictured as a woman, set within a chapter that presents Babylon under that figure. In that symbolism a woman stands for a church, so a vile woman stands for an apostate church. It is part of a warning about the perils lying before God's people in the last days. It shows what will exist then, including a people working counter to God and a deceived company standing in opposition to Him.

It belongs to the prophecies of Revelation 12 to 18 that are being fulfilled now. It stands just before the very last call to the churches in Revelation 18, which is now to be given as the last message of warning to all people. Beyond that call lie the seizure of the beast and the false prophet to be cast into the lake of fire, and the binding of the dragon. That binding is for a thousand years, to be followed by the resurrection of the wicked, the final destruction of Satan and all the wicked, and the final triumph and reign of Christ on this earth.
