Christ Riding a White Horse with Angelsby KandD

Revelation 19:13

And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

The rider clothed in the blood-dipped vesture and called The Word of God is Jesus Christ, also called Faithful and True and supreme ruler over all kings and lords, coming with heaven opened on a white horse at the head of the armies of heaven. He comes to judge and make war in righteousness, leading heaven's forces against the beast and its powers to defeat the nations and execute God's judgment, and the blood upon his garment belongs to that righteous vengeance against those who persecuted His people. His appearance is glorious and searching, with eyes like a flame of fire, many crowns, and a majesty that terrifies the wicked and burns into their souls while the earth trembles before Him. The one so revealed as an honored King is the same one who was mocked, struck, and crucified, and His wounded hands and pierced side remain as signs of the cruelty He suffered and the price of redemption. This belongs to the closing scenes of earth's history soon to be fulfilled, when the Lord will come in a short time to vindicate His authority and His law in the battle of Armageddon, warning those who enforce false worship and cause suffering that they will perish by His judgment and calling all to be ready with sins pardoned and cleansed.

The Rider's Identity and Coming

The rider is Jesus Christ, called the Word of God, coming with heaven opened on a white horse. He is also called Faithful and True and bears the royal title declaring him supreme ruler over all kings and lords. His appearance is glorious and searching, with eyes like a flame of fire and many crowns upon his head. That crowning includes a crown within a crown upon his sacred head, and with it are feet like fine brass, a powerful voice, a garment of the whitest white that no earthly fuller could whiten, a girding about the chest with gold, and a written name upon his vesture.

He comes in his own glory and his Father's glory at the head of the armies of heaven on white horses, clothed in fine linen clean and white. He is attended by a heavenly escort in victory and majesty, with the heavenly host accompanying the honored King. His mission is to judge and make war in righteousness, leading his army against the beast and its forces. In that righteous warfare he defeats the nations and executes God's judgment. The vesture dipped in blood belongs to this image of righteous judgment and vengeance against those who caused suffering and persecuted God's people.

Beyond the portrayal of Christ on the horse leading his army against the beast and its forces, no further sense of the blood-dipped garment or the name The Word of God is given. His glorious return contrasts with his former humiliation, for the one who was mocked, struck, and crucified is then seen as an honored King. Yet his wounded hands and pierced side remain as signs of the cruelty he suffered and the price of redemption. At his coming the earth trembles and the wicked are terrified, and his enemies acknowledge his majesty.

Those who enacted his trial and mockery see him as he is and understand the wrath of the Lamb, as their own degrading actions stand before them in living detail. That living presentation shows them the worth of the soul and the Christlike character they failed to obtain. His searching eye burns into the very souls of his enemies and searches all creation. His laying aside of priestly attire and clothing himself in kingly robes before leaving heaven as the plagues fall marks the end of his intercession and the close of the plan of salvation, when there is no longer atoning blood to cleanse the guilty nor one to plead for them.

Prophecy and Present Warning

The nineteenth chapter belongs to the closing scenes of this earth's history and will soon be fulfilled as a last-day event. In a short time the Lord will come from heaven to vindicate His authority and the laws of His kingdom. The One clothed with a vesture dipped in blood and called The Word of God goes forth on a white horse at the head of the armies in heaven on white horses, clothed in fine linen, clean and white, to judge and make war in righteousness. This is Jesus Christ leading the armies of heaven in the battle of Armageddon, which is soon to be fought.

It belongs to the testing truths for this time and to the last call of mercy to be given more fully to the world. It is a message of warning to be sounded to all while God in mercy shows long forbearance. He holds back His judgments until those who have not yet heard have heard.

The chapter is a warning to those who would enforce the worship of the beast, for God will bring their actions and the persecutions they cause to account. Christ on the horse leads His army against the beast and its forces. He comes in righteousness to judge and make war, to avenge His children who were falsely witnessed against, fettered, and burned at the stake. Those who carried out the spirit and purposes of Satan in causing pain and compelling men to transgress the law God commanded all to obey will suffer as they caused suffering and will perish by His judgment.

Watchmen on the walls of Zion and every minister must discern these messages and give them now with a certain trumpet sound. To pass along without discerning and declaring them leaves souls quieted to sleep and brings eternal loss. Christ is presented coming in judgment, crowned with glory and wearing a royal robe bearing the title King of kings, and Lord of lords. He searches all creation. The scene calls people to be ready for judgment, with their sins pardoned and cleansed.
