Revelation 19:19
And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
The gathering is of the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies to make war against Him that sat on the horse and against His army. The rider is Christ on the white horse, having King of kings and Lord of lords written on His vesture. His army is the armies of heaven following Him on white horses, clothed in fine linen clean and white. This gathering is the battle of Armageddon, soon to be fought. It is part of the prophecy of the coming crisis in earth's closing history, which will surely be fulfilled and will soon be fulfilled.
The gathering is the climax of the evil alliance formed through the union of church and state. That alliance seeks to compel worship of the beast's image and observance of the spurious Sabbath. In this end-time conflict the worldwide apostasy over God's law includes disregard for the Sabbath and coerced worship of a man-made institution in its place. The verse means final open rebellion against Christ by earthly powers. It is linked to the persecution Christians endure from apostate powers.
God does not overlook attempts to compel people to do evil. Those who enforce the beast's worship and oppose God face His judgment and vengeance. They perish for bearing false witness against His chosen ones, bruising them with fetters and burning them at the stake, carrying out Satan's spirit and purposes in causing pain, and compelling men to transgress the law God commanded all to obey. As they caused suffering they will suffer. The conflict ends when Christ comes to rule, with the beast and the false prophet taken and cast into the lake of fire and the rebellious forces destroyed.
After this chapter come Satan's thousand-year confinement, the resurrection of the wicked, the final destruction of Satan and the wicked, and Christ's triumph and reign on earth. The verse holds testing truth for this time that all must read and understand. It belongs to the last call of mercy and message of warning to be sounded to all and given more fully to the world. God in mercy shows long forbearance and holds back His judgments until all have heard. It is to be read and understood in connection with the last warning, the approaching day of judgment, and the judgments of God, which include war and bloodshed.
The verse belongs to the closing scenes of this earth's history that are now being lived. Ministers occupying the position of watchmen on the walls of Zion must discern its message and give it at this time with a certain trumpet sound. Passing along without discerning and proclaiming it quiets souls to sleep and results in eternal loss.
