Revelation 19:20

And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

The verse takes place at the soon-coming battle of Armageddon, when Christ as Faithful and True, the Word of God, King of kings and Lord of lords leads the armies of heaven on white horses clothed in fine linen white and clean to judge and make war in righteousness, striking the nations with the sharp sword from His mouth, ruling them with a rod of iron, and treading the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. At that time the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gather to make war against Him that sat on the horse and against His army, and the beast is captured together with the miracle-working false prophet who deceived those who received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image, and both are cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone, while the remnant are slain with the sword of Him who sits on the horse. This judgment follows rejoicing over the judgment of the great whore and the marriage of the Lamb. It ends the rebellion of the confederacy of evil after its war against Christ and His army.

The false prophet wrought miracles before the beast, and with them deceived people into receiving the mark of the beast and worshiping his image. This taking and casting into the lake of fire occurs before the dragon is bound for a thousand years, the resurrection and final destruction of the wicked, and Christ's final triumph and reign on earth. The chapter will soon be fulfilled as part of the prophetic message about events in the last days. The closing judgments described in Revelation's eighteenth and nineteenth chapters will certainly be fulfilled.

The verse belongs to the truths of Revelation 18 and 19 that all should read and understand; they are testing truths for this time and make up the last call of mercy to be given more fully to the world, and part of the warning of God's coming judgments. God's mercy is shown by His long forbearance in holding back His judgments while waiting for this message of warning to be sounded to all, because many have not yet heard. The chapter contains the messages for the closing scenes of this earth's history in which people are now living. Every minister as a watchman must discern its messages and give them with a certain trumpet sound, walking in every ray of light and holding to Christ who gave His life for the life of the world, since passing along without discerning and declaring them quiets many souls to sleep and results in eternal loss.

The verse shows the Lord avenging His children who were falsely witnessed against, fettered, and burned. Those who carried out Satan's spirit and purposes by causing pain to human beings will suffer as they made others suffer, and those who did all in their power to compel men to transgress God's law will perish, the beast and false prophet being taken and destroyed alive in burning judgment. The verse is part of the judgment on those who oppose God and enforce false worship, showing that God does not overlook the persecutions they inflict or their efforts to compel others to do evil. Their fate belongs to God's retributive judgments against those who persist in rejecting His law and taking part in the final apostasy, connecting this rebellion with disregard for the Sabbath commandment and the enforcement of a counterfeit form of worship.
