Revelation 2:21

And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.

The verse belongs to Christ's message to the church of Thyatira, one of the messages to the churches in Asia found in the first three chapters of Revelation. Together with Revelation 3, those chapters represent successive states of the Christian church from Christ's first advent to His second appearing. Each church name is symbolic of the Christian church in a different period of the Christian Era, and the number seven indicates completeness, showing the messages extend to the end of time, are in force today, and portray the state of things existing in the churches of the religious world today.

Thyatira was full of zeal and activity, but its charities and zeal were endangered by false teachers. Its figures are symbolic of the state of God's professed people, with wheat developing among tares and truth standing on its own eternal basis in contrast with error. The verse reveals Christ's discrimination in weighing the characters of those who have taken His name as Christians. Every individual is under His supervision, He is acquainted with the thoughts and intents of the heart as well as every word and act, and He knows all about each person's religious experience and whom each loves and serves.

Standing among those messages, the verse gives an earnest warning to prepare to meet the Lord in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory, rebukes indifference to the signs foretold by Christ, and shows that the end of the world is right upon us. That same danger threatens God's people today when worldly plans and interests absorb time and attention and let the work of the third angel's message languish. Christ as the true Watchman bids workers to comprehend His progressive work, to establish it in many places, to come into line, and to arouse to labors marked with far greater earnestness, faith, and self-sacrifice, which requires close self-examination.
