Angel Measuring the Jasper Wall of the Holy Cityby CBPepper
21:15Revelation 21:15
And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.
The verse stands in the last chapters of Revelation, a prophecy of the last events of this earth's history that will surely happen in the last day. It was made known by Christ Himself to John on the Isle of Patmos as a living reality, given from God in solemn warning. It pictures the holy city, the New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven at the end of the thousand years after Christ's second advent. The city then settles upon the place where the saints stand.
The city is a real place where God's people will meet together, with twelve gates and twelve foundations and streets of transparent gold clear as crystal. Its gates appear ajar, with beams of inner glory shining through from God's throne as a glimpse of the heavenly home. It is the home of the royal family of God, where there will be no more partings. The golden reed for measuring the city and its gates and wall is the divine, heavenly measure by which God forms His church as a temple. Every member, as a stone in that temple, is to be shaped and polished to that standard, so the church reflects heaven and shows the world God's sufficiency and higher laws.
Only those changed and sanctified in character in this life will enter, and obedience to all God's commandments fits a person for a place there. The nations that have kept the truth enter into the city of God, and doing His commandments gives right to the tree of life and entry through the gates into the city. Those found there will be God's commandment-keeping people numbered with the redeemed. Yet every person may have a place there, and God wants each person to be there, which He showed by giving Jesus so fallen humans could enter. It is worth striving to be there, and this representation should lead every believing soul to seek earnestly for eternal life.
The passage must be read carefully and understood in these last days, with its lesson kept before the mind as a reminder of the things which will be. It is to be proclaimed with great power, showing where the world stands in earth's history, and to be acted on without delay. Believing and practicing its word is the only hope of the world, with the choice to believe the Word of God or be deceived by Satan's sophistry. Satan seeks to keep minds confused about it to gain a great victory. Acting on it calls for deep and thorough individual work of cleansing, refining and transformation of the heart. It calls for thorough humbling of the soul before God on the part of those in positions of responsibility, and earnest seeking of the Lord with heart and mind and soul that will entirely change present conditions.
