Revelation 22:6
And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done. And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.
These words are a seal that what has been shown is dependable and certain, given by Jesus Christ as Lord of the prophets, who sent His angel to reveal to His servants what must soon take place. They confirm the coming realities of the river and tree of life, the end of the curse, seeing God's face with His name in the forehead, and reigning forever for those who have a place in the city. The revelation concerns the closing scenes and last events of earth's history and the experience of God's people, and time is presented as very short, though delay does not mean failure because God's word never fails and opportunity for sinners still remains. It is written especially to be understood by those facing the dangers of the last days, so it must be read carefully and prayerfully, kept in the heart, taught simply to perishing souls, and preached as God's Word rather than human theories or traditions. It means Christ is coming quickly with His reward for every person according to his work, so there must be earnest character formation, daily following of the Lord, keeping His commandments, thorough cleansing and humbling of the heart, worship of God alone, and readiness to receive Him.
Giver, Message, and Timing
The sayings are faithful and true, given by Jesus Christ as the Lord God of the holy prophets, who sent His angel to show His servants the things which must shortly be done. The Lord of the prophets gives through His angel a dependable and true revelation of what must soon take place. The prophetic message is true, belonging to a book that concerns things that must soon take place, revealed by God through an angel to His servants.
The faithful sayings thus sealed are those of the river of life and the tree of life, of no more curse, of seeing God's face and having His name in the foreheads, and of reigning forever, and they will surely be fulfilled. They belong to the promise that those who have a place in the city of God shall see His face and have His name in their foreheads. Christ Himself made these things known to John on the Isle of Patmos, speaking through him and sending His angel to show His servants what must soon happen while declaring His quick coming.
What is shown concerns the closing scenes of earth's history and the experience of God's people, the last events of this earth's history given in solemn warning to call minds in these last days. They include the events at the close of the thousand years after Christ's second advent. Shortly and quickly present time as very short, as the angels of God always present time to men. Longer waiting than expected does not prove the word failed, because the promises and warnings of God are conditional and His word never fails, and though the wait may feel long the time is not to be shortened while there is still opportunity for sinners to be saved.
Understanding and Sharing Truth
This verse belongs to a message written especially for people facing the dangers of the last days, concerning things that must soon take place as revealed by God through an angel to His servants. That book can be understood, especially by those living in the last days, and it must be understood clearly now so that Satan cannot gain victory by keeping minds confused. Its words should be read carefully and prayerfully, and presented and studied by the people and shared with others. Its last four chapters must be read carefully by all carrying responsibility in office and in church.
Its dependable and true revelation of what must shortly happen is to be kept in the heart and taught to others, with others urged and stimulated to keep the sayings. Those who take all Scripture as guide, study it, and walk in Christ's way and not their own find in His Word the richest treasures and power, and the mighty blessing of God will surely come upon them in everlasting life. The prospect of eternal life and the wonderful blessings awaiting the children of God should give determined interest to open the Word before souls perishing and dying in sin. That work is to be done with the simplicity of Christ, telling them of those blessings and trusting that God will help in the work.
Its faithful and true sayings of God must be preached as the Word, not replaced by human suppositions, new theories, traditions, and fables. Ministers must search the Scriptures earnestly and preach the Word, and those who study God's Word with earnestness will be directed by heavenly angels in the search to the truth that gives life eternal. Those who teach for doctrine things not contained in God's Word come under the condemnation represented in the last chapter of Revelation.
Living Ready for Christ
The faithful and true sayings mean that Christ comes quickly with His reward to give every person according to his work, and in view of that soon coming there must be earnestness in forming character after the divine similitude. Those who would stand at last among the redeemed cannot live as they please gratifying their own desires and inclinations. If they are not following on day by day to know the Lord they are losing ground, and His goings forth are learned as prepared as the morning by keeping the sayings and doing His commandments to have right to the tree of life and entrance through the gates into the city.
It calls for a deep and thorough individual work that should have been done long ago to be done now, a thorough humbling of the soul before God with cleansing and refining and transformation of the heart. There must be deep searching of heart and cleansing of the soul temple as preparation for helping others and watching for souls, and diligent cultivation of the soil of the individual heart. Then fruit will appear in the life of every teacher and worker in proportion to light given, and a wrong spirit will not develop and permeate office and church. Its last chapter is to make an impression on heart, life, and character, prompting earnest prayer and untiring work and thorough repentance with forgiveness for neglected duties and readiness to receive Christ.
It warns all living on the face of the earth to lean helpless souls upon the Lord alone and not upon any man. God alone is to be worshiped, without exalting or worshiping fellow men, lest both the worshiped and the worshipers be led astray to ruin. All contention and faultfinding and lifting up of the soul unto vanity are to stop.
