Revelation 9 predicts the history and overthrow of the Ottoman Empire. Its time prophecy consists of a first period of 150 years followed by a second period of 391 years and fifteen days. Those periods were calculated to end on 11 August 1840, when the Ottoman power in Constantinople would be broken and Turkey would surrender its independence.
This was fulfilled at the exact time, when Turkey through its ambassadors accepted the protection of the allied powers of Europe and placed itself under the control of Christian nations. The exact fulfillment proved the correctness of the principles of prophetic interpretation used by Miller and his associates and strengthened confidence in them. It gave a wonderful impetus to the Advent movement from 1840 to 1844.
